Racist vent

I responded to someone's post on the family matters board. They said that no one wants their child to marry out of the race (in regards to her niece, who is white, getting pregnant by her black bf). I responded with that is not true, and said how I married a Middle Eastern man who is Muslim, and I am a white Christian, and my family couldn't be happier for us.

Someone responded to me and said my family was crazy and haven't I seen "Not without my daughter". Apparently, all Muslim/Middle Eastern people are crazy psychopath terrorists who want to kill white people. WTF is wrong with people??

This is so not something I am normally touchy about. My H was born and raised in California, is extremely American, but just happens to be of Middle Easter descent, and is a non practicing Muslim. How does this translate to terrorist? People are so f'ing ignorant it is rediculous (can't remember how to spell it) sometimes!

Vent over

Re: Racist vent

  • I'm sorry.  Some people are just ignorant.
  • I've dealt with that stereotype my whole life and unfortunately there are some really uneducated and narrow minded people out there.

Funny you mention that movie because that was the bane of my existence in 4th grade when it first came out. The girl who lived next door to me wasnt allowed to play with me anymore bc her grandma thought since my family was from the same country portrayed in that movie that we were all the same.

Its a very sad fact of life...Sad

Ugh, I am sorry to hear that. It just surprises me that people are still so ignorant. But especially in this "post-September 11 world" (a phrase I hate), people are even more blatently racist towards Middle Eastern people. It's like they think it is ok to generalize an entire region of people, just because there are a some extremists who cause problems.

  • This is going to sound soooo racist.... but when I was like 15.... I wanted to marry a black guy, because I LOVE how 50/50 kids look!

I always pictured my dark skinned daughter, with blue eyes and the cutest curly hair~!Embarrassed

I'm sure my kid will still be cute, but you know what I mean! LOL!!

I couldn't care less who my kid(s) marry... as long as they are treated well and happy, and race has NOTHING to do with that!

  • This is sad. I'm so sorry. :(
  • It seriously blows my mind that this kind of mentality still exists. ?I am sorry.

  • Holy cow.  That is more than just ignorant.  I'm hispanic married to a white man..wonder how horrible that is!?

    CRAFTY ME

    my read shelf:
Kasi's book recommendations, liked quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)

  • People are ignorant and stupid. I have a very good friend who is a Muslim Middle Eastern immigrant, so I fail to see how ALL Muslims are terrorists.

There are people of other religions/ethnicities who are also terrorists. Have they not heard of Timothy McVeigh or Terry Nichols?

  • Seriously. I don't get how people can be so blatantly racist. But other than my initial reaction, I just try not to let it bug me. My husband thinks I am funny because I will get more upset about stuff like this than he does. But he's been dealing with it his whole life.

Over the summer we went to a Toby Keith concert in Devore and this lady was waving a confederate flag around the whole time. It just really got under my skin because of what it represents. MY husband just thought it was funny that someone would still represent the confederacy in 2008.

    Me too, I love gringos.

People are so stupid. Ignorant is putting it mildly,

  • I'm with Irma, people are stupid. Ignorance is not knowing. I'm sure these people know, and choose to believe what they do. The only thing I can to you (anyone who has dealt with this) is that not everyone thinks like that. I pray that way of thinking will become a dying breed.
