As you guys know Johns grandmother (who we all call Grandmother b/c that's what the eldest grandchild called her) is in a nursing home, she broke her hip a few weeks back and hasn't really recovered mentally, physically she's OK. She now has dimensia and most of the time doesn't know us.
Last night she got up to "clean" (dimensia) and her TV fell on her head, how it happened we'll never know b/c the TV isn't anywhere where she could actually reach it. This is where it gets sad, the nursing home didn't call my IL's for two hours, in fact they really didn't call at all, her roommate called John's aunt (the aunt is dating the roommates son, long story for another time) anyway she called and said that the TV fell on Grandmothers head, she looked awful and that no one at the home had called for an ambulance. My MIL called them and asked what was going on, they claim that they were calling an ambulance then, 2 hours after the TV fell but they were "monitoring" the situation.
They get to the hospital at the same as Grandmother is being wheeled in, my MIL said she looked awful. The TV had hit her on the back of the head causing a massive hematoma (sp?) - the ER Dr. didn't want to put her through a CT scan as it would cause her a lot of distress and he didn't think that they would be able to do anything for her if they found anything but given her frail state and age he said it was likely that she had some bleeding on the brain.
So she was released back to the "care" of the nursing home this morning, they are a sorry excuse for a care facility now we have to "wait" and see how she progresses, the Dr. did say that it if she had bleeding on the brain then she wouldn't be with us for much longer.
John is livid at the home and was ready to go up there today and raise holy he!!, but between his mom and I we convinced him that he would only make things worse, they already don't watch her like they should, going up there would only make things worse. It's a terrible position to be in, my IL's can't afford for her to be anywhere else, they can't take her home b/c no one home during the day to watch her and she really needs 24 hour care at this point.
A funny side story: She loved "THE KMART" not kmart, THE KMART back her good days, when ever you ask her how her day has been she'll tell you she got some good stuff at THE KMART and then she'll ask you if you know that person over, b/c she saw them at THE KMART "this morning". That or she needs her purse and shoes b/c she's late for the bowling alley. bless. Last night she told my FIL when they were in the ER to get shoes b/c she really needed to run to THE KMART right quick! John couldn't help but laugh.
So please keep her in your thoughts and prayers, I don't really know what to ask you to pray for though, pray that she comfortable? goes quickly and without pain? that she recovers and is with us longer? - ugh, it's just awful.
Sorry this got so long
Re: So very sad
That is awful how terrible that the nursing home didn't even call the ambulance until 2 hours later!
I'll keep her in my prayers.
Ugh, I'm so sorry, caro - that is terrible about the "care" the home is giving her.
When Greg's gma was really bad, MIL had power of attorney over her and actually admitted her because she kept falling; the hospital actually placed her - and it was the BEST PLACE ever. Any shot that might work for you guys (hospitals seem to be able to get ins somewhere and insurance has to cover it as part of their negotiations in some cases.)
I understand what you're saying and will send you, and John's grandmother well wishes - either way. **hugs**
That is beyond terrible. I hope she is ok Caro.
I also just have to say that I would be beyond livid and would seriously hurt anyone who hurt & neglected someone that I loved in that way. I don't blame John for wanting to go there and confront them. If it was me, I don't think there would be any sense talking into me not to do it.
Can you do this without them knowing who did it? My MIL is just afraid that the care is so bad now if they complain it would only get worse.
Thanks for all your thoughts.
Thanks!
