Publix Apron's Cooking School Review

Redwingsfan (aka Katie) and I went to a class last night at the Publix Apron's Cooking School in Boca. The class was titled "Shoestring Gourmet" and used ingredients like fresh tomatoes, onions, red pepper, flank steak, chicken thighs, grits, orzo and pears.

There were about 10 girls there and the chef showed us some basic knife skills and put us to work immediately. I diced up veggies for the bruschetta and Katie got dirty battering chicken and grits (yes, deep fried grits).

The class began at 6 and the meal was complete by 8:30-8:45ish. They had bottles of wine for the students to drink - after the meal was cooking.

The food was pretty darn good and the chef provided some tips that I had never thought of before.

All in all, $35 for a hands-on cooking class was worth it. In fact, they are offering a demonstration class on Saturday featuring ginger and it's reduced to $17.50!

I think the best part of the evening was eating the homemade ice cream and pear gratin. I think I'll use pears in my next dessert.

So....if you're ever interested....I thought it was worthwhile. Here's the link to the site: http://www.publix.com/aprons/schools/Boca/Home.do
