grrrr.... car troubles (need to vent)

I'll try to make this the short version...

My car started having issues the other day. It's been idling really rough anyways, but at a red light, my car gave this death shudder and then stalled. Now, it's an automatic, so that's hard to do. And it's a 2005, so not exactly a junker here.  I limped the car home. Next morning, the check engine light was on, so I limped it to a Pep Boys near my work. (mistake #1).

They told me it would be $100 just to DIAGNOSE the issue. (ugh.) So I got the call later in the afternoon, and was told that it was this one piece that needed to be replaced, and it cost over $300. Not including labor. I asked him, okay, and this will FIX my issue? And it's DEFINITELY this part, and not some bad seals/connections or tubing leading to it? He said no. What am I gonna do? I told him to go ahead and make the repairs. They said it was gonna cost just above $600.

I got a call later in the day, saying that they'd ordered the WRONG PART, and the new one wouldn't be there till late the next afternoon. I left my car there overnight. My brother had been shuttling me around so far (we work in the same office), and then my husband became my shuttlebus.

Car was done yesterday. Went and picked it up, and on the way home, I had the SAME ISSUE!!! car died on me at a red light. As soon as I limped it home, I was on the phone with a service manager. I was as nice as I could be, but let him know that I wasn't pleased... the one day job now became at least 3, yada yada yada. SO I brought the car BACK to him this morning for him to check out personally. He said he'd call me when he figured out what was wrong. I was still nice about it, but asked what was going to happen about the pricey part I'd already paid for, that hadn't been necessary. He said that THAT's what had set my check engine light off. I told him that I was assured that replacing that part would FIX my problem, and had I known that this wasn't true, I would have gone elsewhere (to my usual people) and gotten the car sitation handled there. That my decisions were based on false information given to me in the first place.

I'm gonna fight this one. When I came to work, I updated my boss on my situation, and he offered to call them for me if I wanted. (He's an attorney.) So at least I know I'm being taken care of, but still SOOOOOO frustrated with the whole situation. grrrrrrrr!!!!
