up-and-down weekend

We got some very bad news on Thursday night.  My grandmother has bone cancer.  Her leg broke at the beginning of Feb and she was in rehab after the operation.  The doctor told us that there was no cancer at that time.  Last weekend, she was moved to a different facility in Pittsburgh.  (She was here, and I'd visit daily, but it was better for her to be near my aunt long-term).  The new doctor determined that her leg was not healing at all, ran new tests, and diagnosed her with cancer.  It's stage 4, so we're obviously very upset.  She hasn't decided on treatment yet.  DH and I were able to visit her yesterday, and she is in good spirits despite the circumstances.

We went to OH to visit my parents.  First, we stayed with my mom and stepdad.  The two poodles had a fabulous time playing together, and we enjoyed our time there.  Then, we went to my dad's - he and my stepmom are moving to FL soon.  They've done a lot of work on their house in the past few months, and we wanted to see the progress.  It looks really great, so hopefully it will help them sell.

Then last night, DH's sister told us she is pregnant.  We're so happy for SIL and BIL.  It was nice to get some good news.

Stacey - I hope you had fun at the dog show.  I was bummed we couldn't go.

Re: up-and-down weekend

  • I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother.  It's never easy to get news like that. I'm sure it helps that she's in good spirits.

Congrats on getting to be an aunt, though!  I have one niece and I'll have another by the end of the month. I can't wait to meet her :)

And if you have any pics of the puppies playing, we'd love to see them!  I don't think we've seen any of your puppy since right after you got him (her?).

  • I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother.  My thoughts are with her and your family.

Congrats on the fun playdates and on the big news of becoming an aunt.

The dog shows were a lot of fun.  I took pictures but I haven't had a chance to download them yet, I'll share them when I do.  There is a big show next weekend in Timonium, MD.  I would love to see pics of your puppy too.

  • thanks pookie - This will be my first real experience as an aunt, so I'm excited about it.  I do call my best friend from high school's daughers my nieces though, and I got to see them this weekend.  They are such sweethearts.

eeks, I am really behind on posting pictures.  I took some this weekend, but I haven't uploaded them yet.  For now, I can show these from a few weeks ago.  Haley weighs 23# now, and is definitely in need of a grooming appointment.

  • Stacey - I'm glad the shows were fun, and I'm looking forward to seeing the photos.  I'll think about going to the one in MD.  Thanks for the info!

Thank you for your kind thoughts for my grandma.  She's an incredible lady.

  • Sorry to hear about your grandmother.  You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

The puppy is super cute!  And congrats on becoming an aunt soon...it is so much fun!

  • Haley is so cute!  When my golden retriever was a puppy, he used to try to gnaw on us too. We called it kisses with teeth :)

LOL, DH calls it the exact same thing!

  • I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother.  I hope they are able to come up with a good treatment plan to keep her as comfortable as possible.  Definitely exciting on the news about becoming an Aunt...
