Need advice re: estimate for new flooring
We had Essis and Sons in Mechanicsburg give us an estimate for new flooring. We want DuraCeramic in our kitchen (nice size kitchen), carpet in our dining room and living room, carpet in 3 bedrooms, a hallway and down our stairs. The estimate they gave us is $7,800.
Does anyone have any experience with new flooring and does this seem like an outrageous estimate? It includes them moving our furniture, the pad for under the carpet and labor for removing and disposing of the old carpet and installing the new carpet.
Thanks!
Re: Need advice re: estimate for new flooring
Essis and Sons is outrageously expensive. They gave us a quote once to install a vinyl floor over 350 sq feet, and it was 5k. Um, no way!
I'd shop around a little more....even check into hiring a contractor. A contractor can mostly likely get the DuraCeramic at a much cheaper cost, and you'll likely be paying much less for labor. At a minimum, shop around for more quotes. Flooring isn't cheap, but it's definitely not that expensive!
I had Essis and Sons install laminate in my dining room and kitchen over 2 years ago. I had 3 estimates and they were the cheapest. I just had them estimate installing the same flooring in my living room. I'm going to get at least one more though just to be sure.
It never hurts to shop around!
Essis and Sons seems expensive, I would try Bowers Flooring, they have much more reasonable prices and they are super to work with.

also i would check stores like CostCo and Sam's sometimes they have flooring at really good prices if you are willing to buy it and transport it, then hire someone to put it down.
Wow, you've got a lot of flooring to redo. I can't really give advice on prices. I know our sellers had the kitchen floor tiled by Essis before we got the house. The REA said it cost $5000, which sounded down right outrageous to me, but who knows if that was true? The installation quality seems very good though.
