Recommend your city and why?!
We are moving to the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I've posted before and people were so kind to offer advice. We need recommendations of the surrounding cities. Anyone care to recommend their hometown?! TIA!!!
FYI we have a child and want a family community.
Re: Recommend your city and why?!
I live in Frisco and I like our area (Frisco, McKinney, Plano, Allen). LOTS of families and good schools.
I would also recommend checking out Southlake, Keller, Flower Mound, Coppell... I'm sure there are others I am forgetting.
We live in University Park and love it. It is actually its own little city in the middle of Dallas, very close to downtown. For us it was all about the location. We also like the older home (although many are now tear downs and rebuilds) all the houses are still very different, not cookie cutter all by one builder. The school district is extremely good and is probably a huge factor in driving the land value up. The down side is that it is very expensive (quite a bit above what you mentioned in a previous post that starter homes cost where you are now). Some people don't like the pressure on kids and the snob factor. While we don't have children yet I have been surprised how down to earth most people really are, of course there are the exceptions. I think you just have to be active in your kids' lives and teach them good values at home. There are a ton of young families, so it is very family friendly.
Good luck in your search!
Richardson:
* great schools
* family friendly
* right next to Dallas
* affordable housing
* established, mature neighborhoods
mid cities (hurst/bedford), or Grapevine area...its the country side of the the city to me. Just a little more laid back, but has all the benefits of the city. Ft. Worth is right next door, which is the big city around here, but doesnt feel like a big city at all. And it isnt far from Dallas-which to me is the definition of big city. I like living in North Richland Hills (or hurst or bedford), because I dont feel like Im near the city at all, but its really right there.
Hurst/Beford/Grapevine, even Keller are super family friendly and there are some awesome school districts around there. I wouldnt recommend Dallas ISD.
Flower Mound - good location between Dallas and Ft.Worth. Good schools, shopping, and resturants.
Y'all know I'm going to pipe in and whore out Coppell
We've lived here about a year and I absolutely love it. The location is awesome, you're right in between Valley Ranch, Grapevine, and Lewisville so any shopping you want is right around the corner. I commute to north of downtown Dallas and it's 30 minutes or so depending on time and traffic conditions. I think my favorite thing about it is that it's not a city that you really drive THROUGH to get anywhere. If you're in coppell, it's most likely because you live or work there.
Schools are awesome, community is awesome, and if you really start pricing houses it's much more affordable than most people think.
But I also think most of the cities other posters have listed are great as well.
We live in Grapevine and love it...it has an amazing parks and rec department with awesome camps, parks, swimming etc....plus is so close to shopping; great schools...we really could not be happier.
We are new relocation from out of state (7/2008)
