How much do you spend on groceries?
Maybe this is a boring topic, but I was looking at MM and I'm shocked by how low some of the weekly costs are. We spend about $130/wk, sometimes more. I don't know how someone can spend just $80. Then again, we do eat meat, and we have our fair share of packaged stuff. I am too tired/lazy to cook during the week, so we have a lot of TJ's frozen stuff, too.
Re: How much do you spend on groceries?
somewhere between 70-100 at the grocery store + 40-50 at the super target. per week.
but the grocery store visit usually involves buying alcohol and the target visit usually includes some misc stuff.
yeah, I don't really know.

We spend about $75 a week at the grocery store. I was stoked yesterday because our bill was $66.
For foosd, we only shop at TJs. Water and Gatorade comes from Costco. The $75 includes fish, alcohol, and other meat for my DH (I only eat fish). We don't like prepackaged food, and usually make everything from scratch.
I spend about $200 to $300 a month on food from the grocery stores and farmers markets (Henrys, Ralphs, Costco, Pavillions). I buy meats on sale in bulk and then divide them into ziploc freezer bags and label them. I buy pretty cheap stuff for frozen dinners for work but other things aren't expensive like cottage cheese and milk.
I get produce on sale usually only (Henry's has really good prices) or at Bahaar or other "ethnic" grocery stores where I find the produce to be cheaper.
DH probable spends about $100 more or less on things like alcohol, beer, and random ingredients he needs.
But we also eat out at least once or twice a week and DH buys his lunch pretty much every day.
In total on groceries (not eating out) we're probably around $500 for cleaning supplies, groceries, and dog food, paper goods. NOT including meals out.
MH has a membership (it's through his dad's work) and we never go because he knows we'll end up spending at least $200 if I'm with him.
and it sucks when it's just two people - most of the stuff will go bad before we have a chance to eat it.
Yeah I agree. I don't get a ton of regular food at Costco but I will get things like olive oil, tuna in cans, granola bars. It works best for parties I think. Oh I also get wine there and fruit but not too much bc I know it might spoil.
I remember I almost cried the first time we spent over $200 at Costco for 2 people.
$500-650 a month for two adults and a dog.
We've been trying to eat more fresh items, as well as more organically. It seems to add up rather quickly.
Edit:
I dumped costco for food shopping for the most part. We shop at growers direct for produce and TJ's and Fresh and Easy for other stuff.
We average about $200 a month BUT we do quite a bit of eating out too. (Usually weekends but luches sometimes too when I don't pack us lunch)
this is a good thing to use Costco for especially if you have a big freezer/extra freezer. We also buy bread there because we like different kinds and it is cheap enough there to buy both. We also do milk there becuse we drink a LOT and its actually even cheaper than our reg grocery store. We dont go crazy because we always use our coupons and have a set list
$60-$80 per week and there's two of us, this includes:
Fresh fruits and veggies from Farmers Markets picked up 2x per week
Chicken
Fish- Salmon or whatever is on sale
Sliced turkey
Wheat bread
Milk
Coffee
Rice (sometimes)
Diet coke
Skinny Cows on occassion
Granola Bars
Frozen veggies and fruits
Herbs and spices
Wine
We don't eat a lot of dairy, and hardly ever see a potato in the house. Every now and then I splurge on stuff but it's pretty rare. Once in a while, I pick up a gigantic bottle of liquor and that lasts us a month of more.
