roofing $$

Has anyone had their roof replaced fairly recently? We have 3 roofs--2 flat rubber ones and one pitched shingled one. We need the two rubber ones done. our agent had someone go out and give us a quote. They quoted all three roofs (@ 1000 feet he figured) at $4500. I think that's really high. The one is like 13x15 or there abouts putting that about 200 sq.ft and the other one is only a bit longer but i don't think as wide.. So maybe 500sq ft at best, total. I don't know where he came up with his #s. He could have measured them when he was there. So does $2000-2500 sound more like it? Of course right now, even that is high for us. Paying rent and a mortgage sucks!!

Re: roofing $$

  • My parents just had theirs done - it was~ 13k but they had the metal composite stuff done - theirs would have been half of that if they'd gone with a more traditional material.  This was also with new gutters.  They had it done this past summer, so they missed out on the tax credit (it was there for 2007 and is back for 2009)

    Cancer sucks.
  • We had our back roof (shingles) replaced last year and was receiving quotes for around $3k and that was for 15 squares (not sure what that is equal to in sq. ft).  Anyways, my husband ended up doing it for 1/2 the cost of what contractors were quoting.  So if you look at it that way, doing 3 roofs for $4500 may not be too bad.  I would look into Amish companies, they may be the cheapest.
  • We had a 12 by 26 rubber roof installed back in 2005 for $1800, and in 2007, we did our side porch rubber roof (about 8X12) for $800.
