Has anyone ever tried this? It looks good in theory - they plan out your meals for a week (if it's just 2 of you, they give you 5 meals, if you're a "family" you get 7). Gives you a shopping list and tries to keep your weekly grocery budget for dinner under $75, much less if shopping for 2.
The only downside I see is I'm fairly certain they don't give calorie counts (although they do have a low fat menu option) and you are stuck with what they give you - so if you don't like salmon, you have to make up something else for that day. Although, for only $15 every 3 months, it doesn't sound like that bad of a deal...
Re: E-mealz?
I've never heard of this... is it online? I think for $15/3 months, it's definitely worth a shot! LOL Especially if our grocery budget would drop significantly like this!
I agree - I'd be slightly concerned with what they gave me. For instance, if they regularly gave us salmon and didn't allow us to opt out of seafood,... well, how would we survive since MH doesn't like seafood?
Also, how can they make sure it'll be under $XX/week? I would think the difference in prices from store to store would kill them!
Oh, and the link is http://www.e-mealz.com
I looked at the lowfat Walmart options for 2 versus the points options for any store for 2. Both menus looked decent and I probably would've eaten any of it. The nice thing is the points menus DID give the # of points for the things they posted, but of course if you don't do WW, it doesn't really help you.
The recipes are fairly straight forward, so you could fairly easily keep track of what you were eating (ex: 3/4 lb chicken breast for 2-3 people + a little flour, cooking spray, salt & pepper, etc.)
The ONLY thing I think it cheats on a little is that it doesn't count staples and includes SEVERAL things as staples (FF mayo, RF mayo, eggs, cooking spray, salad dressings... if you got hit with buying a couple of those each week if you didn't have them, your "$35/week couple bill" could QUICKLY become about $50/week, not to mention any additional produce or breakfast/lunches you'd need. For instance, I think one of the samples said it used FF ranch one night and FF Catalina the next. I have neither of those in my fridge, so I'd end up spending ~$7-9 on salad dressings that week.)
HOWEVER... for dinners alone to cost us ~$35-40/week?! That is definitely something I think I'm bringing up to Greg. LOL
It's a good idea! I'll check out the site...but I'm nervous since I'm such a picky eater that most of the meals I wouldn't eat.
