My contact is stuck!

I sometimes wear contacts, most of the time I wear glasses because of the very reason that my contacts always seem to get stuck, and it takes me forever to get them out and its just not fun. Well DH & I are going fishing all wknd this wknd so i was "practicing" wearing my contacts again. I got home last night and went to take them out and my left one was stuck...literally..so i put some eye drops in trying to lubricate it up....nothing...so finally i just went to bed with it in thinking i'd be able to get it out this morning....WRONG...that bad boy was still glued to my eye ball...i thought well maybe I got it out, but i looked all on the bathroom counter nothing, and i could tell the difference in vision between my right eye and left eye....so i came to work and the dr i work for dug it out of my eye, ugh it was horrible. he put this weird numbing eye drops in my eye, then scraped it out w/ a q-tip..holy crap i hate contacts!!!   just thought i'd share bc its bizarre and i can't stop thinking about it bc my eye hurts!

  • Okay, that was a horrifying visual you painted so, it must have been awful for you!  I'm thinking it's glasses for you all the time now, eh?

  • Good lord, that is a terrible story.  It's giving me the shivers right now.  Do you wear hard or soft contacts?  I wear hard, and have had them get "lost" but I've never had to go to the eye doctor to get them removed.  Have you considered Lasix?
  • Wow - that stinks! I've had various problems with my contacts after about12 years of wearing them, but I think your story takes the cake. I HOPE you are able to find a better contact, be happy in glasses, OR take our own Nestie Doctor's advice and look into lasix. I would LOVE to get lasix, but just don't know about the cost, etc... GL

  • OUCH! I have worn glasses since I was 3 and then I moved to contacts when I was old enough. Then I started getting these strange eye infections and the contact would cause a bump on my eye. It would make one of my eyes all swollen and red and was not very cute. I was working at a barn teaching summer camp working long hours and spending all day outside so I ditched the contact and glasses all together. Then about a year ago I decided I couldnt see, so when I went to the eye dr, of course he got mad about me not wearing glasses for 5+ years and tried to put me back into contacts...wrong! I got another infection and now Im scared to even wear them bc this one hurt so bad! so im stuck w/ wearing glasses from now on unless I just tough it out and cant see!

Sorry its so long....I didnt realize.

  • oh yikes!

I've had that happen before. I usually wear glasses, but for dressup occasions or whenever I feel like it realy, I have 1 day disposables. I have had them get stuck behind my eye before. usually after I rub my eyes because they're tired from being in ?contacts all day.... then i actually move the contact without knowing it... gah.

anyway, i feel your pain. that sucks that you had to get a doc to look at it, but i'm glad its out.

as far as fishing, I know you were probably wanting to wear the contacts to be able to wear sunglasses, can you get any sunglasses that clip onto your frames? or just wear a hat?

    ?

  • I wear soft contacts, i don't know what it is about my left eye but i always have the worst time getting them out. but i like wearing them (i hate wearing glasses, i like wearing sunglasses, but i can't wear them when i drive if i don't have contacts in bc i can't see crap).....I haven't really considered lasix just bc i know its expensive and i'm not ready to throw down a few grand on my eyes...

  • I will still wear my sunglasses to fish, I just won't be able to see any kind of distance. my sunglasses are polarized which allows me to see down into the water, instead of just looking at the glare on top of the water.

  • Hmmm, it is a strong point.  Lasix is expensive, but then again how much are glasses/contacts for the rest of your life going to cost?  I am thinking about doing it, but my eyes have to not change for two years in order to be a candidate.  I think in the long run it would be worth it to not have to mess with contacts anymore!
  • Well, so far my glasses only cost me a copay at the eye dr....but that was when i was on my parents ins..i dunno how much they will cost oh DH insurance..but contacts are kinda pricey, i was surprised..but i dont think i have to worry about contacts for a while, my eye is throbbin so i think i'll be staying away from them for a while. ....i'll have to look into lasix in my area, i  told DH at lunch today that I want lasix he said, just wear glasses and i can get a boat motor...don't ya feel the love! =)
