My H is graduating with his 2nd master's next month (a techinical focused MBA). He has been working for 5 years while going to school at night and does not plan on going to the graduation or anything (we will be in spain actually, but he wasnt going either way).
My MIL emails me asking for the addresses of my relatives to send graduation announcements to. Personally, I just don't see the point of sending a graduation announcement for a 29 year old who is working and earned a degree at night....bachelor's degree or master's when you went full time, fine (although I didnt send them for me).
Is it me, or will this come off a little pretentious/braggy? is it wrong if I say that it really isn't necessary to send them to my family aside from my parents?
Re: Is this weird or just me?
I'm graduating in June with my Masters and I don't plan on attending graduation or sending announcements. My reward is knowing that I did while I was working full time. If a close family member wants to send me a card then so be it but I don't expect anything from anyone. My aunt actually asked me last weekend if I was going to have a big party and the thought had never crossed my mind. I'm going to have some friends over for drinks one Friday and let loose a little but that's about it.
Yea, that is what most of my friends with master's did, too. Something to celebrate, but nothing big. My H had a big party for his first one, but I can kinda understand bc he went straight to grad school FT from college.
Oh you bet my MIL is throwing a big party in June.
It's odd yes, but at the same time she's really proud of her son. The actions of mothers cannot be explained.
IThanks girls! know that she is really proud, which is why I want to be sensitive about saying something to her regarding not sending them to my extended family.
I guess I shouldn't care what people think, I just think it is not the norm and could be misconstrued as bragging about one's accomplishments. People will find out about his degree through conversation. I don't see the need to send something forrmal in the mail.
