If you were single, would you travel/live overseas alone? (Or, did you while you were single?)
Where would/did you go?

Re: Poll: Would you...?
I would like to:) I was already engaged when I finished college so it wasn't really a major consideration. BUT, I LOVE to travel.
In May 07, both DH and I (we weren't engaged yet) went on a trip to Switzerland thru our wonderous U of Minnesota. It was a 3 week program with 1 week spent with a host family. After that, I traveled some with 3 girls (Italy, Germany) and he and another friend went all over (Prague, Budapest, Amsterdam, Paris, Venice, Milan etc...) Anyhow, I think if we weren't farmers I would LOVE to live overseas for awhile if we could both find jobs. But, I am close to all my family so it would be hard in that way.
I've also been to Mexico (a 12 day mission trip) and Canada (with my family to look at dairy farms). But, that's the extent of my world travels.
I'm excited to hear what everyone else has to say. And, Carrie, I know you've done the whole living abroad thing. So, what's your take?
Right after university I moved from a city of 1 million in Canada to the hustle and bustle of New York City! Its not overseas, but it was a bit of a culture shock to a girl who grew up in a town of 5000 people.?
I didn't know anyone when I moved there either. It was fun, and if I was single and was able to, I would definitely go abroad somewhere to live and work for a year. Paris, would be fun. It would be tough, but DH and I have lived apart before and I am sure we could again. ?
Um I probably would have (and even considered it) living and/or traveling abroad by myself. I never got the chance to but sure would love to have. I would live anywhere (mostly) in Europe or Australia. Anywhere else I'm really not all that interested in, but had I been given the chance to go, I would've taken it just to have that experience.
I think now though that I"m married, I would enjoy traveling more with my husband definitely than by myself or living over there by myself. Getting to experience it with him would be the best thing ever.
I was graduating from school a semester early and I thought that instead of graduating, I would spend that extra semester in Europe. I wanted to go to the University of Salzburg in Austria, I even took German for it (altho the classes would have been in English). But I couldnt - my financial aid wouldn't carry over and I couldn't justify digging myself into more debt... turns out it was the right way to go. That January was when Kevin and I started seeing each other.
If I was single, I would love to go, but I don't know if I would be brave enough to go alone. I definitely have world travelers for friends who would go along tho. I'm open to just about anyplace - esp Europe!
hmmmmm...good question!
I don't think that I would go absolutely alone...preferably with a few good friends or family members
I've known a few people who have done this, and loved it...but I'm more comfortable traveling with at least one other person.
I'd definitely go back to Europe...maybe do the whole eurotrain thing for a few weeks...man, that would be a blast...guess now I'll just do it with DH
I lived with a host family in Barcelona for a summer when I was in high school, but it was an exchange through my high school so there were like 15 of us out there together. That being said, I am in love with Spain and can't wait to go back!
I think if I were a carefree single gal (lol) I would definitely go out and spend some time abroad. A lot of my classmates are doing international rotations, which I would love to have done. But, I used my vacation time for the wedding and so I had to do all my remaining rotations in Seattle. Plus, it is way expensive and now we are trying to see if we can afford to buy a house in addition to paying off more money in student loans than I want to acknowledge
Absolutely!
I lived in London, England alone for six months back in '94. I've also traveled alone to Germany, Ireland and Mexico. The traveling bug caught me early and I'll go pretty much anywhere. I always had a great time traveling by myself but, I'm definitely loking forward to sharing the experience with DSH now!

definalty NOT! i am afraid of going outside at night by myself let alone to another country by myself! I hate going anywhere by mysefl. i've never gone out to eat by myself or to a movie by myself... there is no way i could go out of the country by myself.
but KUDOS to those who have! i'm sure it was a great experience....
