XP: Vacuum Recommendations

Alright, my vacuum sucks, and I don't mean literally. I want a Dyson (Animal), but Steve wants me to do more research before we put down $500 on a vacuum.

I need a vacuum that's good with dog hair, allergens, and it must have a hepa filter. I'd also like it if it works on both carpet and hardwood floors (since we'll be moving soon and hope to have hardwood).

I have the "regular" Dyson (It's pink too!) and it works like a charm. Correct me if I am wrong, but when I was researching, I think the Dyson has the same suction no matter what model, just different attachements and such. I use ours for everything from cleaning our mini blinds to our carpets and tile floors. I have no idea what I did before I had one, they are just awesome!

I wasn't sure about that! I'll have to go to some websites and see what it says about the suction. If that's the case, I should just get a regular Dyson. I don't know if I really need all the "bells and whistles" that probably come with the Dyson Animal! Smile

I know you said you wanted to do more research before dropping the big bucks, but we have the Dyson Animal and I cannot say enough good things about it. It was WELL worth the money!! I was super skeptical about it, but we've noticed a major difference in the carpets since we started using it! Regardless of the model, just remember you can use BBB 20% off coupons on them!

We have the dyson animal ball and it is pretty much the most amazing thing. David LIKES to vaccum with it. We have a ton of dog hair so it is amazing to see how much it picks up each time we use it.

I don't know about what model would be best for you, but I totally rec the dyson brand... it is awesome.

We've got the Animal and I love it! I have no regrets about dropping the big bucks on it because it works far better than any other vacuum I've used. And I believe Olivekittys is correct; the animal is the same suction as the regular Dyson, just different attachments and brushes better suited to picking up pet hair. If you have shedding pets, I would get the Animal because it does a great job of picking up the hair. And ditto RJ about the 20% BBB coupon.

I have the regular Dyson and I'm in love. It is fantastic and absolutely disgusting when you see what it pulls up from your floor even if you vacuum daily.

Just wanted to add that since we bought the Dyson back in December or so, I've only vacuumed a few times. Not because I am lazy and keep a dirty house, but because DH loves the darn thing and thinks it's so cool that he does all the vacuuming now! It's like his nightly ritual. I'm certainly not complaining

Check Ebay for the Dyson animal. I was able to get a brand new one in the box for about $350.

Also a Dyson owner here. And we couldn't be happier. DH does all the vacuuming. He is very impressed that it's holding up so well. We have two big dogs...(GSD's) and lets just say it does a great job.

We have a dyson too, i bought after we moved into our house. The prior owners had an indoor dog and i couldn't breath the first week with lived here. I would vacuum everyday and it still didn't help. Bought the animal and after vacuuming for 4 or 5 days in a row i saw a big difference. I love the attachment that come with the animal work great on cleaning the cars
