Traveling in the States

DH and I are wanting to spend more of our vacation time discovering different parts of the US...where would you definitely recommend and not recommend to visit? What is there to do there?  Oh, and we'll put Canada in the mix because its right there :)

Re: Traveling in the States

  • Tahoe dude.  If you've never been it's friggin BEAUTIFUL!!!!  They also have gambling up there too and snow skiing (obviously if you go in skiing season). Steamboat Springs, Colorado is GEORGOUS too.  Has awesome skiing and the most adorable town.  NYC is a blast too (SOHO has the best shopping...I've only been once to NYC though) Ya'll should also go to New Braunfels here in Tejas.  Guadalupe river is a blast during the summer.  You can tube, canoe, raft down it.  The original Schlitterbahn is there. San Marcos isn't too far and they have an AMAZING outlet mall (coach, dooney, you name it Smile)
  • Sounds like so much fun!  We want to do this one day as well.

I'd say definitely visit California and go to LA to see Hollywood, the sign, Beverly Hills (just to say you've seen it) and the beaches, the OC, San Diego and the maybe also go up north to wine country and  san francisco so you can get total feel of California.

North Carolina because it's beautiful.  Not sure exactly where to tell you to go, but there's tons of history there to visit.

    Florida, cuz why not!

New York and DC and Chicago....and that's all I got for you, but I'm sure there are way more beautiful cities out there to visit.

  • What kind of place are you wanting to go to ?? The mountains? The beach? Do you like theme parks, roller coasters? There are so many options! If it were me, i'd like to go to Canada! DH & I got a timeshare from his grandparents and we are wanting to go to Canada with it. I don't know if we will get to, but that would be nice!

Florida is good for the beaches, if you are a beach person, i'm a beach fanatic so I love it here. Clearwater is an amazing beach!---but florida is so touristy. It depends on if you want to go somewhere thats kinda off the beaten path and not touristy then I wouldn't suggest Florida.

  • I really want to see The Grand Canyon and Yellowstone.?

I also want to see New Mexico.

I have been to Vegas, and it was fun. We also went to the Hoover Dam.

I absolutely love NYC! I lived there for almost 2 years and it was the best 2 years ever. There is so much to do there.

And, if you are in NY, you may as well head upstate into the Adirondack mountains. Its beautiful. And Vermont in the fall is gorgeous too.?

  • My parents went to Maine and Vermont this past Fall and they absolutely LOVED it and their pictures were breathtaking.  I would give ANYTHING to live up there in those adorable towns, that's my kind of place to live!!! It just looks soo clean and nice and looks like the air smells good too, unlike down here.
  • great suggestions you guys...thanks so much! I've already been to a few of the places listed, but some others I had never even though of, but will put them on the bucket list!!!

  • I'll put in my plug for the lovely pac NW and it's beautiful:

    waterfalls

    mountains

oceanside (not sunny and hot, but grey and pretty)

Portland and its great foodie/wine scene

Seattle and its great music scene

    Big Smile

  • Santa Barbara, CA and the Santa Inez Valley wine country...it's is absolutely breathtaking there!

Also in SoCal - the San Bernardino mountains - Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear.

I have heard that Utah is just amazing with all of the mountains and canyons. Supposedly, if you drive 20 miles in any direction the landscape completely changes.

  • I don't think anyone mentioned Boston. I love all the historic sites. Some of the other places I was going to suggest have already been mentioned. I too want to travel around the country.
