Unbelievable: HOA

As you guys know, we have our old house on the market right now and have moved into a new home.  Last week (or was it the week before?  I can't remember), the Sec/Treas of our HOA called to tell me a cat had kittens beside my house and that she wanted to ask if she could put a cat carrier beside the house for them, so they aren't out in the nasty weather.  I said of course.

I just get my mail and in it is a letter from the Pres of the HOA, also signed by the Sec/Treas, stating I am in violation of the HOA bylaws because I have an "Eyesore" beside my house.  I call to ask what the eyesore is (I haven't been by the house in awhile - it's kind of out of my way and the REA is checking on it for us).  The Pres tells me that it is the cat carrier!  When I tell him the Sec/Treas put it there he said "Yes, but it is your responsibility to make sure the outside of your home is neat."  So I called the Sec/Treas to tell her to remove the carrier and she started CRYING because the cats will be out in the weather.  I told her to take it up with the Pres and then call me back and let me know what I'm supposed to do.  I also told her I'm not paying the fine (first warning and it included a $50 fine).

  • What!? That just sounds ridiculous!

  • Ha...the Pres called back - they are making a special exception for me this time since it's for the health and well being of living beings.  Seriously, that's what he said.  "Health and well being of living beings."  I'm going to have to go by there and see exactly what this "eyesore" looks like!
  • OMG, they are unbeleivable aren't they!!!  What a complete lack of communication and now those poor kittens have to suffer and you are inconvenienced.  Idiots.
  • I wonder if the Sec/Trea even told the Pres that it was her suggestion to put the cat carrier there!?!

  • I don't think she did - and quite honestly, I'm not sure she knew what the eyesore was when she signed the letter.  When I told him it was her carrier he kind of stumbled over his words and when I called her and said what he told me she got upset and said "No, that's not it..." then started crying over the kittens.  Gotta love people....
  • Are they just going to leave the kittens there?Sad  If the Sec is so concerned, maybe she should take them in and find them homes!

  • Her son is allergic - I asked that question too.

The momma cat is wild.  MH used to feed her when we lived there and I think that's why she stayed around our house.  After we left he would go down every now and then to put out food for her.  I've thought about moving them up to our new house (to live outside) but I know how cats are - if you touch their kittens when they are too young, they will "shun" the kitten and not feed it or they will move them away and you won't find them again.  I had a momma cat once kill it's own kitten because I played with it.  :(

  • That's ridiculous!!!!
