Radio Discussion this morning

So this morning when I turned on the radio for Xena, there was a conversation that just floored me.

Apparently, its becoming a big topic that women have stopped eating when they're planning on going out drinking that evening.  (So for instance, if MH and I were going to go out tonight and I knew I was going to have drinks, I'd skip lunch or dinner to "balance out" the calories in my drinks with less food.)

I COULD NOT BELIEVE this thinking, but it only got worse.  Here is the conversation that totally flabbergasted me:

Caller: That?s ridiculous!  Eat a turkey sandwich or something.

DJ: (mocking Caller) Yeah? not eating would make it tough to slam 4 beers or so! Ha ha ha

Caller: Exactly!  If you?re THAT worried about the calories, go to the gym the next day or something.  A couple miles jog would take care of it.

DJ: How old are you and how often do you go out?  When you go out, how do you do it?

Caller: I?m 25 and my FI works at a golf course.  So we go out? probably average of 2-3 times a week.  I eat a turkey sandwich and probably drink anywhere from 5 beers to a case myself?

DJ went on to point out that she feared she?d wind up at the gym the next day next to the Caller after having drank that much!  A CASE HERSELF seemed extreme, especially when you go out several times a week.

And even WITH jogging a few miles the next day (ewww, can you imagine how bad she smells sweating out all that beer?!?), her ?Jog a few miles? theory made me speechless.

Umm? someone ought to tell her that at minimum 5 beers = 320 calories (MGD 64 @ 64 calories/12 oz), 550 calories (Bud Light @ 110 calories/12 oz), 725 calories (Budweiser @ 145 calories/12 oz), or god forbid she like more micro-brewed or dark beers because those average 160+ calories/12 oz!

Can you imagine if she drank even 10-12 beers?  She?d have drank MORE CALORIES in beer than she could eat that day probably.  (12 beers = 768 calories (MGD 64 @ 64 calories/12 oz), 1320 calories (Bud Light @ 110 calories/12 oz), 1740 calories (Budweiser @ 145 calories/12 oz), 2000+ calories (more micro-brewed or dark beers @160-180 calories/12 oz)!!!

No wonder I don't fit in with my peers... I'm only a year older than her!! Tongue Tied

Re: Radio Discussion this morning

  • I don't know many women who can drink that much.  When I was in law school I could drink but I don't think a case by myself was even remotely in my sights!

And, seriously, why would you not eat before drinking?  You get drunk faster, feel the effects harder and feel worse the next day!

  • That just seems silly to not eat before going out drinking because you think it will balance out the calories!

I've seen people drink that much 2 or 3 times a week...but these were the type of people who could care less how many calories they were taking in and were drinking because there was nothing better to do in college. And you're right the next day the alcohol odors they emit are awful!!

  • I couldn't believe this girl was only a year younger than me. LOL

I guess that shows my "real age"... I hit a brick wall after 4 beers or so, and that's an odd night I hit even 4!! LOL

  • I know girls that have been doing this since I was in college.  It's crazy imo.  I've seen them get very sick and the next weekend go back out and do it again.  One of my good friends is still doing this and she is in her 30's.  Personally I think it is stupid and watching them is pretty bad too.
