I play on money matters a lot and it seems like everytime someone posts a budget people responde "What about your charitable giving?" or "You should give x% of your income to charity" or something along those lines.
I'm not saying that we shouldn't give to charity. But I don't sit around and do my budget to include what I am going to give to charity because I don't like to put a set amount on what I'm going to give (some years I give more than others but, in general, my firm does all my charitable giving - it comes out of my entitlement for the year so I only give above what the partners and I decide to give, out of my draws, when I see fit - like for Paula's walk).
SO I guess my question is, do you give a specific percentage of your income to charity? Do you think everyone should?
Re: ? re: Charitable Giving
My company is very involved with the United Way, I normally have a set amount of money taken out of my check each week (this year was less than other years b/c I knew I had the chance of losing of my job), I choose which charity receives my money, this year it was the March of Dimes, I feel very lucky to have been blessed with a healthly child.
That's the only thing I have "alloted" we give throughout the year to other organizations also.
We do not budget this in, mostly because we don't give to many charities throughout the year. (We donate if someone is doing something, like a charity walk and asks us or mentions it. I refuse to donate to the people who just randomly call me - I don't know them from Adam and it could be a scam.)
