No longer STTN

Bah! This SUUUUUCCCKS! He's been waking up twice during the night (at 1 or 2am and then again at 5am) for the past 4 days and sucking on his hand and then he starts whimpering, so of course, I get up and get him and feed him, because I don't want him waking Tom....sure enough Tom tells me this morning that Austin's noises have been waking him up regardless....so back to me letting Austin cry a little for that first wake period...

Re: No longer STTN

  • 4 month sleep regression. Could be his teeth too. Does he have a pacifier??
  • I honestly think it's because he has been napping so crappy lately (for the past 2-3 weeks)....I'm of the philosophy of "sleep begets sleep" and if he isn't getting enough day sleep, he won't sleep well at night...

I think part of the problem is actually me. When he rouses from a nap (like we do if we roll over while sleeping), he lets out these little "is anyone out there?" whimpers and I usually go get him....I just ignored the "whimpers" at around 9am....and he fell back asleep and has been sleeping for an hour!!!

I myself as a parent need to learn that if he really wants me, he will really cry and let me know and his "whimpers" will escalate if he is really waking up....which I had not been letting him do...

  • Oh yeah, I leave Maddie until she starts crying hard. She'll do the same thing, even cry a bit, in the middle of her nap but if I get her she'll be cranky. I can usually tell she's had enough sleep if she's babbling to herself or playing quietly. At night he could just be waking up and sucking on his hands to go back to sleep. Is your monitor up high? I started turning it down around then because I usually woke up if she was starting to wake up anyway. We had the monitor up so high that I could hear every sound and we weren't sleeping well. You'll hear him if he wakes, it's like Mommy-dar :)
  • Yeah...see, I've been running to his every "is anyone out there" cry and I think I have no one to blame but myself for his crappy napping....

Having never been around a baby, I don't know these things! Huh?

He does wake at night and suck on his hands, but I don't think I let him fuss enough back to sleep - we currently still have him in our room with us, because we have the a/c in there....so I hear his every move...

  • Oohhhhh, yeah that's tough. We leave a fan in Maddie's room and she sleeps in a diaper.
  • Ugh, unfortunately sleep habits are a constant battle!  I think you guys are doing really well, though, so try not to get too frustrated :)
  • Owen totally had the 4 month sleep regression,  He just started to sleep for a 6 hour stint again for his first stint.  He has never really slept through the night.  I was just reminiscing about the days I had to wake him up to feed him every 2, then 3 and 4 hours, maybe that ruined him!  I remember crying when I saw his NB onesie that said "don't wake me, I'll wake you"  cuz I had to wake him!!  Those days are long gone!!
