We are going to Mexico next week. Now that american airlines is offering to change tickets without a fee, DH wants to go somewhere else. I am not worried about the flu so much. PV has no confirmed cases and DFW has 2. It sounds like I'm safer sitting on the beach in PV. What would you do? We will probably have to pay the difference in the price of the airline tickets because our Mexico tickets were cheap. The resort was booked through RCI and I paid the extra to be able to change our plans. So it shouldn't be a huge $ loss to change our plans. I've just been looking forward to this trip and researching places to go eat and tour for so long. It's the honeymoon all over again (hurricane hit 2 days before the wedding and we had to change our entire trip)!!
Would you go or would you change your plans?

Re: Swine Flu, wwyd?
we are trying to decide the same thing right now, we are going next week too
right now we have decided unless any of the major health organizations say not to go, we are still going.
I don't know - you never know if this will turn in to The Big One but then again this could all fizzle out and not go anywhere
I think I would still go - you can't predict what a flu strain will do
You might have already seen this and it may or may not make a difference to you, but I just saw this on Fox News

The only reason I wouldn't want to go is because I wouldn't want to risk catching it and getting stuck in Mexico. If I was going to get it, I'd rather be in the US. I know it's probably very unlikely you would get swine flu while you are there so it may not be a big deal...
I would still plan on going since it's not confirmed in PV, but of course closely monitor the situation. On Thursday, we booked our trip to the Riviera Maya for July. I read an article that says there are now confirmed cases of travelers that got it after visiting the Cancun area. I hope the situation gets better and not worse for everyone's sake! My SIL and her family, including our 2 y.o. niece, live in Cibolo which is where the 2 confirmed cases in TX are. I'm mostly concerned for them right now.
DH's big deal problem is he is worried they will close the border while we are there. I said, perfect an extra week of vacation! He didn't laugh.

On the news last night some official person (I can't recall who it was) did say that they have no plans to close the borders because it is already in the US so it wouldn't do any good. I don't think you will be stuck there.
I would probably still go. I might plan on staying on the resort a little bit more than going off and just take whatever precautions they recommend.
I would absolutely still go, but I would take preventative measures like handwashing very very often, hand sanitizer and I would ask my doctor for a prescription for Tamiflu (what they have been presccribing for Swine flu) and I woudl take it for the duration of the trip.
Maybe you can find a mouth mask to match your swimsuit
If it makes you feel any better DH is going to Mexico City on Tues. I'm sure it will be fine.
p.s. they have reported cases of it here in the NYC. I'm not fleeing town.
You couldn't pay me enough to go to Mexico right now. But then, I have a 4 year old and a one year old at home to think of, and illnesses like this can be life threatening for tiny bodies. So in MY case I'd not go.
I absolutely wouldn't go. Maybe the odds arent that high of anything happening to you, but there are alot of others things going on because of this. Airlines are affected, the border is affected, the workforce could be affected. Its better to be proactive than reactive. Officials arent going to take the measures they have already taken to just make everyone feel ok. They are doing things because its totally necessary. Im not saying dont go to the store or in your front yard-seriously its not like that...but I wouldnt go to Mexico.
We (my office and others just the same across dfw) are currently monitoring the situation VERY closely, from the federal level down to the local level. There are federal and state conference calls involving things that are very serious-again being proactive and prepared just in case.

I wouldn't go - whether I had children or not. I know people living there and from what I understand, it's pretty bad. AND they just went through a whole with fighting there too. There's only 82 confirmed cases in the US out of quite a few million people. Mexico has way more than that confirmed cases and 100+ deaths from it. That would be enough to keep me home.
This is from the Cancun board on trip advisor and I couldn't have said it any better myself:
Folks
Whilst i totally appreciate that this issue may be causing concern let's look at it in black and white and without all the media frenzy...
Sadly 103 Mexican deaths
Mexican Population circa 110 MILLION!
It is affecting the tinyest speck of dust on the planet. I am 100% confident that the relevant authorities will contain this before it does indeed become an issue for Cancun-bound tourist's.
Just my humple opinion and take on things.
I also wanted to add that Mexico is a 3rd world country... I'm sure the people that died did not get the medical attention they needed or much less could afford.
