New Orleans on a Budget & Chateau Dupre

Hi Ladies,

My husband and I are going to New Orleans in August-this trip will definitley be on a budget-nothing fancy.  We will be there for about 4 days.

We have never been to N.O. before, and we're thinking about staying at the Chateau Dupre.  It has mixed reviews on Trip Advisor.  It is definitley budget friendly though and seems like in a great location (we will be w/o a car).  Have any of you stayed here before?  Opinions of it?

Also, any must see or do activities?  We will def be going to Cafe Dumonde (sp?) for some of those beneits (sp?) LOL!  Any suggestions would be helpful!  Thanks!

Re: New Orleans on a Budget & Chateau Dupre

  • I don't know anything about Chateau Dupre, but NOLA is def. easy to do on the cheap. I see your from Chi-town, so one thing, is to make sure you bring your water bottle. One can try and describe the humidity and the heat, but August is the most oppressive month of the year and until you've been through it most people can't relate. For food, check out Central Grocery, and Mother's for sandwiches. Drinking on Bourbon St is amazingly cheap like $5 for 32ozs of beer kinda cheap. The trolleys are a great way to see the garden district and the lovely homes, I think they're $1.25 per person. You will not be at a shortage for food, my hubz and I usually split a salad for dinner then split the entree. So you may find you'll be able to go to nicer places because of this. Southern LA is known for their seafood make sure you part take in that before you leave. Any other questions post them, the ladies here are not super active but are all really nice.
