swine flu?

So since you can't look anywhere with out seeing something about the new pig flu, i thought i'd just ask what is everyone's take on it?  I think there are a few folks on this board that live in states that have been affected by the swine flu...So far Florida is a safe state!  Is anyone taking any precautions?

Personally i'm not to worried about it yet..  maybe because its not been found in Florida yet, i dunno. I don't know very much about it, I just saw a flyer about it on our fridge in the break room- maybe i should be more worried since iwork in an urgent care center. ..

Re: swine flu?

  • I dont know a whole lot about it, but we just got an e-mail about it from some of our Doctors. Since I am in GA and the CDC is here everyone is freaking out. We have been told if you get a fever over 100 and have breathing trouble then consult your PCP and do not come to work. There havent been any cases here yet, so I am keeping my fingers crossed they get it under control before then.

  • It worries me but I'm not gonna hide in my house either.  I'm not sure if their have been any cases in Texas or what.  I know i think like 100 people in Mexico died from it, and that's scary and I feel horrible for those people.  Hopefully they will have this thing knocked out soon!!!
  • I just watched something about this on the Today show and they said that the cases in the US have been pretty mild and to use your common sense. Don't be a hypochondriac and go to the ER if you're not really sick. If you are sick, stay home. Don't spread it around. Wash your hands frequently. And if you have a fever, consult a dr. That is the really big thing, I guess, the fever. So, in essence, use your common sense.?

  • Yes I agree, use some dang sense. I had a guy call yesterday telling me he had a trip to mexico planned for about 5 months and he was wondering if he came in could our dr write him a prescrption for antibiotics for the flu, "just incase"...i was like NO, he doesn't write scripts for JUST IN CASE  (give me a break)....well yesterday i didn't get it, i didn' tknow it originated in Mexico, but last night my hair dressed mentioned it and i was like OHHHH...but even still...geez!

Its like MRSA, everyone thinks they have MRSA when they just have a boil or something. ..being in the healthcare industry is OH SO interesting!

  • mildy worried about it....primarily because I live in Texas :)  All I can do is extra wash my hands and do all of those universal precautions they teach at the hospital to try an prevent anything.

  • I also work in an urgent care center.  And although I am not on the clinical side it is still in the back of my mind as risky.  I'm not real concerned that I will get it, I'm more worried about them canceling international flights if it gets worse.  I'm very much looking forward to my honeymoon and would like to make it there!
  • I just saw an article on my local board that there is a confirmed case of Swine Flu in Orlando.  Ok, now is when you begin to worry a bit, because it's so close to home, but yet remain calm and remember to do all those things they tell you to do.
  • And here is the link to the story:

Apparently it was a tourist from Mexico that is sick.

  • HM, I just went to orlandosentinel.com and it said there are  no confirmed cases in FL yet, it said that some specimens have been sent to the lab to be tested...goodness gracious, that is very close to home!

this was the article I read...its kind of conflicting. in part it says there is a case, and in another it says there isn't..wtf people.

  • No more concerned than I am about any other type of flu. I can say that I'm happy our honeymoon isn't in Mexico  :-)
