Mother's Day

What's everyone doing for mother's day now that you have a second 'mother'?

I'm kind of torn about what to do since my parents live 1.5 hours away and H's mom is right around the corner.  I don't want to not see my mom for mother's day and I think my MIL would be upset if we didn't see her too.

Re: Mother's Day

  • I've already come to the conclusion that whatever we decide won't be good enough for my MIL.  I'm OK with this too.  She has a bbq every mother's day and if we aren't there from sun up to sun down she gets mad.  ::shrugs shoulders::
  • Ugh, I dunno. We've never split Mother's Day before. And to further complicate matters, I have a feeling that my sister will want to do something with her FMIL. Sometimes I think it would be easier if we didn't live close to our families, but I can't imagine what that would be like!

  • I guess we're lucky that our moms get along and understand what a crappy situation this is, but we usually spend the weekend before/after with one and actual Mother's Day with the other.

This year, we're in MD for the weekend coming up so that will be MIL's "Mother's Day" and next weekend will be my mom's, unless my mom and dad decide to visit MIL for Mother's Day, then we'll go down with them.

  • Ugh. I don't know and H doesn't understand why we should plan in advance.

We have three "moms" and one has a birthday that weekend, too.

H also has hockey practice that Friday night, a hockey game Saturday, Dane Cook tickets Saturday night, and a softball game Sunday. Fun times.

  • Last year I made brunch for my mom, my Gram and my aunt (who is my Godmother).  I have no idea what we're doing this year.  My MIL will probably be away, they go camping most weekends during the spring/summer.  We haven't really discussed gifts, but since things are tight this year they're both probably going to get a nice card and a plant.

I told H I really want to have family pictures taken with both of us and all of the kids as my Mother's Day gift.  Let's see if he can come through on that!

  • Well I'm a mother now, so my mom will get a card w/a gift card to a store she likes sometime before Mother's Day and DH will probably take me and the girls out to brunch and then stay home and relax as a family for the rest of the day.

MIL isn't MY mother, so it's on DH to do something for her. I get my mom her card & gift. We do this for Father's Day and birthdays as well.

I don't consider MIL my "2nd mom" even though she is a perfectly nice lady and a great grandmother to my daughters. She is only my husbands mother; I have a perfectly good mom of my own.

  • I always hate this stuff....my mom and soon to be MIL are VERY similar the only thing is my mom puts on this whole jealous act if I spend time with FMIL....she makes it so hard for me.  I would rather just stay home then pick.  We normally do a brunch with all the females on my mom's side (aunts, cousins and grandmom) but my brother is getting married the day before so we may not be doing anything other then recovering from a hangover :)  ( especially after spending the day in the ugly peach dress)
  • I got off easy this year...my mom will be in Ohio for a wedding that weekend..HA!  So, I'm sure we'll take the MIL out for breakfast or something.
  • haha! ?harper and i are flying home to MN to visit my family :)

  • I just found out my MIL will be going to a wedding Saturday night and Sunday morning she has to take H's aunt home.  So that pretty much settled everything and only leaves Sunday for lunch or dinner.

I told H that he had to get something for his mom.  We still haven't given her her bday gift from March...I'm a bad DIL.

  • We're doing brunch with my mom, which is what we normally do. H's mom lives about 2 hrs away. I tried to see if we can take her to dinner after my shower this Sunday (1 week before) and she doesn't seem thrilled with the idea. She was like, "well, we'll eat lunch at the shower. and I'll have to drive separately." I'm not sure why eating lunch at 12 interferes with dinner. I'm just trying to save H another trip up there - we've been up there twice in the past month.

So I guess if she doesn't go for that idea - he will be heading up on Mother's Day. I'm not going up there anymore - I hate traveling this pregnant. Not to mention, he said that I should celebrate Mother's Day this year too - not sure where he's fitting me in.
