Re: The Walking Challenge Check Point #1
As for me, I've decided that 10,000 steps is a realistic daily goal right now.
Here's how I'm doing starting from last Tuesday, 4/21/09
Tues (bought my pedometer about 2pm) - 8770
Wed - 7802
Thurs - 8400
Friday - 9110
Saturday - 13,451
Sunday - 11,677
Monday - 8114
Tuesday - 11,529
As you can see my steps vary a lot. I find that on weekends I'm outside and walking MUCH more, but weekdays are harder. However, something really cool about my office is that most people like to walk or run on their lunch break. It's a small office, so we scatter our lunch hours so we can take turns getting out to run or do errands, etc. Yesterday I finally brought my running shoes and did a few miles. It shows on my step count! I actually have my own office now - as opposed to a cube - so I don't worry as much if I'm a bit sweaty when I return from running. I've never been in an office where people actively jogged during lunch, but because nearly everyone does it, it just works.
Thanks for letting me share!
Lisa you are doing FANTASTIC!!!! THat is awesome!!! If I didn't sweat soo much when I run/fast walk I would totally do that during lunch, but I sweat like a maniac when I do and I would be totally embarrassed coming back to the office stanky
You've got me motivated though girl!!!
Carrie, I got my pedometer at Target. It was like $15 and it's doing great!! It has a little reminder On it "10,000 steps a day" which is cool. I wonder if they do have a waterproof one? that would be neat. I want to get DH and I taking walks after dinner too. I think this would be great for us!
My steps per day have been kind of all over the place but, I'm sticking with it and striving for the 10K!!!
Far from perfect but, it is a good reminder just having it in my pocket all the time. It helps just to know which days I need to step it up - no pun! Today, I'm at 5,935 at 3:30 pm and plan to take a walk after work + do the 30-day Shred.

I bought a pedometer but when I wore it all day and even while at the gym, I got a total of 735 steps for the day.
So I returned it and got a new one
I really don't move around hardly at all:
today- 1829
yesterday-0 (forgot to wear it, but never left the house)
?monday- 3642
sunday-144 (this is because I only wore it for a part of the afternoon, after I was home from running errands and things, I would guess it at more like 2500)
Saturday- 3373
Friday- 2640
?
My goal I guess is to get off my lazy @$$. I'm going to aim for 5000 a day at first, and then work my way up from there. ?
?
Glad to hear it Carrie!
You know, I'm thinking that mine is showing much higher steps that it should. I just looked at it and it reads 1149 but, I've hardly done any walking betwen my drive to work and sitting in an hour long meeting. Grrr... I may have to grab another to see the difference.
