Question about school closings
Random question - Does this mean that school will go a week or so later into the summer? I assume that the days will have to be made up? Just curious!
Re: Question about school closings
they can appeal to the TEA and have it waived since it's considered an emergency.
I just spoke with my mom who works in a FWISD high school. They are cleaning and sanitizing all the schools, and the reason to close is to keep it from incubating more. She also spoke to a friend in Austin that does testing on virus strains. The friend said they've been busy testing the Swine Flu and actually did say that it could and probably will get worse.
I talked to my mom about it (who is a ?teacher in Crowley) and she said they can't make them make up the days at the end of the school year b/c of graduation and stuff like that. Plus, it was an emergency type of situation.?
Ditto about the TEA thing as well.?
I'm married to a teacher and the daughter of a school board member and I've been wondering the same thing! My mom's question when I talked to her last night was "What about the kids who have to pass TAKS to graduate?"
Different situation, but I know last year our school closed for 1 day b/c hte power was out at almost all campuses due to a big storm that had come thru. B/c it was an emergency situation like that, we got a waiver and didn't have to make up the day. This will probably go thru the same process and they won't end up having to make up the days (and will conduct TAKS testing once school has resumed but before the year is out). Normally, days do have to be made up though (like snow days).?
I'm amazed at how big and bad this virus is over there. It hasn't hit here in Japan (yet...I'm hoping it stays far, far away)! But if it does, I'm going to join the majority of Japanese people who already wear those surgical masks!?
