Back from the lady doc...

I just got Mirena....cramping pretty bad, it didn't hurt as bad as I had read.  I"m pretty tolerant to pain most of the time so I don't know if that help.  I couldn't relax though cause I was scared and nervous and she couldn't see anything (sorry if that's TMI).  But she made me feel a WHOLE lot better about getting it.

I told her some of the horror stories I had read on the internet(i.e. severe mood swings, anxiety, stress, weight gain, etc) and she said that those are not directly cause my Mirena. It releases a tiny amount of progesterone and that is only enough for the uterus so it will not affect your hormones severely like the stories I had read.  She said the women I had read about probably are experiencing that becuase they are not getting the hormones that a normal BCP releases and therefore that is what causes the other. So that made me feel better.  Does that make sense?

At any rate, you can wear tampons, have sex starting today (haha woohoo) and all should be well.  YAY!! I have a follow up in a month.  She said I would experience spotting and the first 4-6 months is when your body is getting used to the IUD, thickening the uterine wall and stuff and therefore usually have annoying bleeding or spotting for that period of time but after that most women have normal periods to not any at all.  And it's absolutely healthy to have this.  WOOHOO I can live with that!!!

Re: Back from the lady doc...

  • my sis had hers put in about a few months ago. She said it hurt a lot to get it in, and the first couple days she had cramps really really bad. I haven't talked to her about it lately, but as far as I know she hasn't had any bad side effects from it.?

I'm glad it wasn't as painful as you thought it would be.?
