So proud of my kitty

I know this is such a cheesy fur mom thing to say, but I have to AW my little Sydney for being such a good girl...

DH's friends are staying with us, and they have their 3 year old daughter with them.  Sydney has literally never seen a small child (ok, maybe she did for the first two months of her life while she lived on the street, but not for the past three years!). I didn't know how she would react to the little girl, because Sydney likes to play rough, and swat at things she doesn't like.

Well, this little girl is chasing Syd all around the house trying to play with her and Syd hasn't swatted yet.  She sits still while the girl is petting her, and then when the girl gets rough with her "petting" or starts shoving things in Syd's face for her to "play" with, Sydney just runs away.  Se can definitely differentiate between DH's rough play with her (where they wrestle and Sydney cuts DH up with her little razor claws) and this little girl's rough play - it's like she knows she's not supposed to hit this person because it's smaller than normal people.

Anyway, I'm so proud of her - I was always worried about how she would be with kids, since she is so young will be around when we have kids and throughout their childhood (God willing).  So, it's nice to know she doesn't want to kill them.... :-)

Murphy on the other hand, has been hiding in the basement since they got here yesterday.  Scaredy cat!!

Re: So proud of my kitty

  • You definitely have a right to be a proud cat momma.
  • yay for a good kitty!  I have some serious doubts about Maya's behavior when the baby comes.
  • Yay for Sydney...I'm glad she was a good girl! My kitties got the test Easter week when my SIL brought her 2 year old daughter over. Well, all 4 of them were excellent with her and played with her the whole time. I too am the proud momma! =)

  • Awh, smart Sydney! Such a good kitty. Sammi has been able to discern the difference too although he hasn't had any long term interaction with any kid so its too early to tell.

  • I love the look on her face (Sydney's) - you can tell she is just looking at this girl like "What IS that!?"  But she's being so good!!
