Formal Intro...

Okie dokie, I've been replying to some posts, but I never formally introduced myself - thought it was time!!!

I'm 24, been married for a little over a year and just moved down to Florida from New Jersey. I'm a teacher and can't wait for the school year to start! Kinda shy, but I'm getting betterStick out tongue Everyone seems so nice over here and I'd love to be more involved. Love to cook, big Beatles fan, can't wait to have kids...........ask me some questions - I'll answer them!

Re: Formal Intro...

  • Welcome to the board and to Florida! Do we really seem that nice...haha!
  • No questions for you, but congrats on your wedding and recent anniversary! I am also shy so I know how it goes...:)
  • Welcome to Central Florida and the board!
  • Welcome to the board. ?And yes DMC, /some/ of us are nice. ?Hehehe.
  • Welcome to the board!  Wow, coming from Jersey is a big move!  What brought you down here?
  • Welcome to super hot and sunny Florida!
  • Welcome to the Central Fla Board.
  • Welcome to the board!  And welcome to hot, sticky FL!  Wink

And if you can't wait to have kids, you've come to the right place.  This board seems to be quite fertile.  Big Smile

  • So do you have a teaching job yet?  Welcome!!
  • Thanks!!! My husband got an opportunity to transfer with his job. He ended up getting a brand new job down here anyways, but we're still happy down here. I grew up going to Disney every year since I was 7, so Florida's been my "home away from home" for a while. I do miss NJ a bit, but still excited to be in Florida!

YES!!! I'm so excited to be teaching in a Lake County middle school this school year! I've already taught 2 years in NJ and I taught in the summers, too. This summer is driving me crazy because I'm not teaching!

  • Jacki - what kind of teacher certification are you getting?

  • You're in Clermont!  Dang, we just had a GTG in Clermont!!  We'll have to do another one soon!

I am a recent graduate of Lake-Sumter Community College's EPI program.  They give you a certification in 7 months if you have a bachelor's degree of any kind.  It was originally started because Florida needed lots of teachers, but now all the sudden we have way too many?!?!  How the heck did THAT happen?

  • Welcome fellow teacher!  I teach elementary in the Oviedo area (the opposite side of town)

I'm in a new development off of old 50 - Verde Ridge. Where are you? (I'm still learning my way around, I'm just proud that I can find downtown for the library and Target! lol!)

Yes! Another GTG in Clermont is necessary! Sounds like a good program for teachers! It seems as though there are tons of teachers. Some recruiters came up to Philadelphia in February and told us all that FL needed 3000+ special ed teachers and 6000+ elementary ed teachers for the next school year. I figured I'd have no problem. Took me a bit of time to find a job (I started in April in NJ and got one last week), but I'm lucky that I got one!

I forget if you mentioned - do you already have a teaching job? What kind do you have/want?

I am practically your neighbor. ?I am on the other side of old 50 in Greater Hills. ?I LOVE Clermont.?

  • Well elementary jobs are getting harder and harder to find, but we always need special ed teachers!  I'm actually thinking about getting certified in Pre-K ESE.  Right now I am certified in Age3-Grade 3, but since the Pre-K programs are disappearing in public schools, I am hoping for K.  But really I'll take what I can get at this point!  The problem is, a lot of schools STILL haven't gotten their allocations!  Don't even get me started on our superintendent......
