I survived Jamaica!

Barely!  I'm not sure I can go the all inclusive route again, at least not for another 7 days.  About 4 days in I was feeling trapped on the resort...we couldn't do any of the boat excursions b/c the weather was bad and we were being advised not to go out on the water (the resort wasn't even taking anyone out snorkeling b/c we had to take a boat out a little ways to do it).  It was expensive to leave the resort on our own too, but we did leave once to go to Margaritaville (which was awesome...watersilde right into the ocean!)...I think the cab drivers just tried taking advantage of people though b/c we were able to haggle the price of our cab fare down, but after that it just wasn't worth it.

The resort was gorgeous, the food was good and the drinks were neverending.  I wound up with some weird rash on Thurs and it got really, really bad on Friday so I spent most of my last day in our room, crying and itching...I'm 99% sure I'm allergic to the sunblock I brought.  The people were pretty nice.  Overall, it was a good trip, but I think we paid extra for the Sandals name and I'm not sure when we'll be doing a trip like this again.  Mike wanted to book the Sandals in the Bahamas for our anni next year for 4 nights, but I talked him out of it unless I run a 32 mile race the day before we leave (which is a possibility at this point)...I feel like I missed out on seeing the real Jamaica and unless I'm too sore to move, I'm not sure I'm ready for another expensive trip like this again.

I'll have a better review in my blog later and I'll let you know when it's up.  There are also pics on facebook, but I'll put some in my blog since some of you can't see those.

Damn you Nest for screwing up my siggy!

Re: I survived Jamaica!

  • Sorry you felt so restricted and about the rash.  I remember in Cabo it was so expensive to leave the resort because of the cab fare so we never left.  I was in Jamaica about 8 years ago...it was one of our stops on our cruise.  We stopped in Ocho Rios and it was fun, but definitly some scary stuff too.

  • I'm glad you're back! ?We missed you!

I enjoyed the all inclusive place we stayed at in the Bahamas - It was Breezes. ?Cheaper than Sandals but, I thought it was incredibly nice. ?Maybe you should try someplace that isn't a Sandals next time??

  • Yep, that's the plan...we saw the Breezes in Montego Bay and it was smack in the middle of the busy part of Montego Bay, which I would have liked MUCH better.  We booked Sandals b/c I'd heard nothing but good things about it - and it IS good, we did have fun and the experience was good - but I prefer to at least have the option to see the culture of wherever I'm visiting, not be shielded from it.

We're looking at non-AI's for next year though...looking specifically at Grand Caymen, Costa Rica and there's always Hawaii...HI always has my heart.

Damn you Nest for screwing up my siggy!

  • I'm glad you had a good trip (apart from the rash).  Blair has been to a lot of all inclusives, and he went to Sandals once and definitely felt like it was paying extra for the name.  He's been to Breezes and really liked it.  We've done a couple of semi-inclusives where bfast and lunch were included in the price.  And that left us open for dinner so we could go away from the resort.

I want to go back to HI!!!!!!! I loved our hm so much!!!!

  • I was going to ask you how your trip was yesterday.  I am glad you had a good time overall.  I have never been to a Sandals resort, but have been to a few all inclusives and like them for the most part.
  • I missed you Val! Jeremy and I did an all inclusive in Jamaica a couple of years ago, it was nice but I agree I felt alittle trapped. I'm sorry the weather wasn't great and you got a rash :(
