just need to vent

Ok. So I am a registered veterinary technician. But I am tired of my current work situation. I am thinking of looking for a new job, but I think I want to get into a new field. Somethings I have wanted to do is pet sit, or become a certified nurse midwife. I don't really know.

My son is starting school at the end of August Kindergarten, and I want to only work around his schedule. I think I could work 9-3. I am just clueless as to what I should do. I looked at Craigslist and nola.com, but it's hard to tell what is real and what is a scheme. I just am ready for something new.

  • I don't have anything to add, except good luck on your decision sending job dust your way.

     hth!

  • Ever thought about substitute teaching?  The one HUGE advantage of being a teacher is the schedule.  We will not talk about the disadvantages LOL.  Good luck.

  • What about becoming a teacher? I know programs like Teachnola will help you become certified. Other than that, you could try to open your own dog walking/sitting service. I know the guy we use to use in DC made about 50K per year (cash). Depending on the clients you could get down here, that could be an option.

What about switching to another vet? Do you think its your current vet that has you burned out or the profession as a whole?

  • I think I am kind of burnt out. I have worked in private practice and specialty practives. I am very good at what I do. So it makes me a little sad to not do it. But, I am ready for something different. I would like 1 of 2 things. Either a flexible schedule (school hours) or tio be my own boss.

One of the other techs is interested in doing the pet sitting with me. I think it will be great she lives in Jefferson Parish and I live in St. Charles. So we can cover quite an area, and we both have experience with special needs pets. So now I guess its just having the balls to put in my two weeks. Lol.

I love animals. My mom also has a pony ride business and a nonprofit called Kids and Ponies - Molly's Foundation. It is an organization to take care of the retired and rescued ponies and to make them feel useful through educational and theraputic programs. So I can also help her out in my spare time.

Ready for a change. Change can be scary. Everything happens for a reason right??
