Re: Discussion on kids
Will you let them watch t.v? Why, why not? They will be allowed to watch some tv, but not all the time. And certain shows. There are some shows that they absolutely will not watch. I played outside and in the playroom when I was a child. And I read and did puzzles, etc. I don't want them to become couch potatoes. Same goes for video games.
Will they go to public/private school? Why, why not? Public. We have some of the best public schools in our area.
What sports/activities will you encourage them to do? Whatever they want. I was big into sports. So was Blair. I know we both hope they are into sports but if they aren't that is ok too. I also participated in a lot of clubs and volunteering.
When/if you have kids:
If you couldn't be a SAHM would you put them in a daycare or use someone independently? I am not sure, I guess I would look into what the best option would be for us.
Will you let them watch t.v? Why, why not? Yes, obviously once they got a bit older I would make sure they weren't watching anything inappropriate.
Will they go to public/private school? Why, why not? Public, our schools are great here. It is a main part of the reason we moved here.
What sports/activities will you encourage them to do? I know MH will encourage them to play volleyball, because he did. I will encourage my daughter (if I have one) to do ballet. I loved it when I was growing up. I'll also encourage them to pursue what they want to.
Will you let them watch t.v? Why, why not? I will let them watch tv but they are not going to be plastered in front of it. And I will not just get my child hooked on something like Barney or whatever and let them watch that all day. I'm not going to be extreme and say no tv or cartoons, but they will not be tv junkies.
Will they go to public/private school? Why, why not? public, there's only 2 private schools in the area and they don't offer the activities and sports that the public schools do. I've never really seen the point in private schools unless we lived in a big city where the school district was the pits.
What sports/activities will you encourage them to do? I hope they will do many things not just sports. My brothers did boy scouts, I did girl scouts. I did things like dance and softball and counseling clubs. I want them to be active in school and have an all-around experience.
I want the socialization too. I think that is very important.
When/if you have kids:
If you couldn't be a SAHM would you put them in a daycare or use someone independently? We, right now, could not afford for me to be a SAHM, and I am not sure if I would want too. We actually already have a plan in place for our phantom child. MH works overnights so he is home during the day. He will watch the baby on his nights off (they are almost always weekdays). My dad is going to take the baby one day a week (he's retired) and one of my best friends stays home with her 2 kids during the week and she will watch it one day (I will pay her just not nearly what I would pay a daycare)
Will you let them watch t.v? Why, why not? Yes, obviously with some limitations but parents need a break sometimes lol. I watch TV when I was younger and my sisters and I all turned out fine. Of course I want them to have a decent amount of outdoor time though also
Will they go to public/private school? Why, why not? Public, again my sisters and I all went to public and turned out fine. The town we live in, or may eventually move too have decent public schools.
What sports/activities will you encourage them to do? Whatever they want to do
When/if you have kids:
If you couldn't be a SAHM would you put them in a daycare or use someone independently? We have Cate in a day-care center, it's very structured, monitered by CCTV (not on the web for security reasons) and they hire only degreed teachers, they have daily lesson plans, play activites etc. We discussed in-home daycares and while they make work for others it just wasn't for us, some of our reasons: the children there are normally not of the same age, therefore having different needs, no one is "watching over" the teacher and for the most part they didn't seem to have any day to day structure.
Will you let them watch t.v? Why, why not? Cate watches very little TV, if the TV is on it's normally on Nogin, she doesn't really care for it though unless it's the Backyardigans or the Wonder Pets
Will they go to public/private school? Why, why not? We've always said that she will go to private school b/c of the state of the SC education system, saying that though the elementary school that we pull to is one of the best in the state, so when the time comes we'll re-evaluate. I'm a product of the public school system and did really well, John went to private school and well, we won't go there!
What sports/activities will you encourage them to do? I like the team aspect of soccer, I played for a long time and I'd like for her to play tennis, as that was "my" sport, I'd also like for her to ride horses but we'll see what she wants to do when she gets older.
Will you let them watch t.v? Why, why not? Of course I'll let them watch TV. I'll monitor it. But I'm not going to shelter my children.
Will they go to public/private school? Why, why not? Public most likely because all the private schools up here are religious. I won't send my child to a religious schoo.
What sports/activities will you encourage them to do? Whatever they want. It drives me nuts to see parents push their kids into certain sports/activities because the parents love it or want it. If my child wants to be in drama, great. If my child wants to be in soccer, great. Each child is different and I hope we'll encourage him/her to pursue what they excel at.
Obviously I already have them, but i'll respond
If you couldn't be a SAHM would you put them in a daycare or use someone independently? I put both of my children in Daycare, my oldest was about 4-5 months when he started, my little guy was just 6 weeks, I did what I could to be with them as much as possible in the mornings / evenings, but I was a single mom working full time, it was the rational choice and it turned out fine.
Will you let them watch t.v? Why, why not? my kids get to watch TV one day a week, usually sunday at my IL's, they get to watch movies from time to time, but i don't think they should be parked in front of the tv, they have each other to play with and if the weather is nice they should be outside
Will they go to public/private school? Why, why not? currently they're in private school, mostly because the youngest is still in preschool, but they will be attending public school at some point, if not next year, then the year after.
What sports/activities will you encourage them to do? they take music and computer classes now, but I'm hoping to get them in sports once the youngest turns five. I also am signing them up for swimming lessons this summer.
Will you let them watch t.v? Why, why not? We will limit it! My nephews, I believe, watch to much TV and they don't go outside and play nearly enough
Will they go to public/private school? Why, why not? Public. I went to public schools are turned our just fine. All people I know that went to private schools are really snotty (no offense to anyone that went o private schools).
What sports/activities will you encourage them to do? I would love for my daughter to be in Girl Scouts and cheerleading or ballet. MH wants her to be in softball. We'll see what she wants to do!
Will you let them watch t.v? Why, why not? Right now David doesn't watch any tv. IF we have it on, he's usually running around playing. He doesn't have any interest in it. There have been times that I put Sesame Street on for him and he was like oh Elmo, that's nice and ran away.
Will they go to public/private school? Why, why not? Right now, I'm leaning towards public. We'll see when he get's older how the schools are. I think I learned more at the public school I went to compared to the private grammar school. High school will be a whole other topic when that times comes.
What sports/activities will you encourage them to do? What ever he is interested in. I will not force him into any. If I had my choice, I'd say no to football and hockey (they seem to get hurt a lot more in those sports). So far, he likes playing "golf" and soccer.
Will you let them watch t.v? Why, why not? We will allow them to watch tv but not all of the time. I would like to see them be outside and do other things more.
Will they go to public/private school? Why, why not? Most likely public but we have heard great things about the private schools here.
What sports/activities will you encourage them to do? I will encourage that he/she do whatever they feel like doing. My father pushed me to be in sports constantly but he didnt win. I was very active in clubs, gymnastics, dance, girl scouts and i dont regret that at all. If my children want to play sports than that is up to them.
