Scale issues?

I weighed myself today....usually I try once at the start of a week and once at the end....but I was curious about something.
My weigh in yesterday from the week was an 8 pound weight loss since I started.
Today when I weighed in I lost an additional 5 pounds in 2 1/2 days.
I find it hard to believe....my scale has also had it's issues and will bounce around to a bunch of numbers (it's digital).

Any thoughts?

I mean if I've lost 13 pounds and it's not a mistake I'm not complaining by all means lol.

Re: Scale issues?

  • have you weighed yourself at the same time of the day?  I am about 3-4lbs lighter in the morning than I am at night, which is crazy!
  • That is a good point. I weigh myself in the evenings, different times each day.
I think I'll start keeping track of the morning & evening.....also trying each at the same time each day.

  • It definitely needs to be consistent time of day especially for women.  I've heard stats that say a woman's weight can fluctuate up to 3lbs a day depending on the time of weigh in.

Depending on your digital scale you might have to stand on it for a while until it sets the number measured.  I know the new ones we got for in our new locker rooms at work bounce around a lot before they finally set the final weight (it gets a little mark on the screen above the numbers).

Me too, I find that it's much more accurate to go at the same time in the morning.

Also, a lot of weight changes can be water weight.

Great job though, take it as a good sign.

  • So I weighed myself this morning (after using the facilities), and I weighed in at 153.0, 2 pounds less than last night.

I'll check tomorrow to see whether it's my scale or my sporadic weigh ins.

Thanks though for the congrats...maybe it is hard work paying off and i'm just being pessimistic.

  • I like to check my scale periodically by placing a 3 pound dumbell on it to see if it is weighing that correctly. I weigh myself first thing in the morning in the buff! :) I do this before I eat. You just need to be consistent on when you weigh in and how you go about doing it. That will give you your true weight.

ditto this...i can't believe I didn't think of it when I posted last night.  We check ours occasionally at work but using a 5lb from the aerobic studio.  Sometimes they need calibration.
