Anyone drive from Mckinney area down towards In City/Dallas?

Wondering what our drive will be like (morning rush hour) if we move to McKinney. My Husband works in Richardson right off of 75 and I work at UT SouthWestern Medical off Inwood.?

?

Thanks?

Re: Anyone drive from Mckinney area down towards In City/Dallas?

  • I'm not going to lie. 75 can be a nightmare more often than not. :( Sorry!
  • My sister used to make that drive from McKinney to Dallas.  In fact, she used to work @ UT Southwestern.  It's an exhausting drive.
  • Sorry, but it will suck.  Maybe you could take DART rail though.  When I worked off 75 & Lovers, a coworker who lived in Allen did that.

  • I did and I do.  I used to drive from Eldorado Pkwy to downtown Dallas via 75 and the drive is at least an hour and 15 minutes, closer to an hour and a half actually and that's with no rain, wrecks, etc.  I would leave the house at 7am to get to work at 8:30.  But if you can leave around 6 the traffic isn't nearly as bad...  I currently drive from Prosper to downtown Dallas via the tollway and that's about an hour and 20 minutes.  For whatever reason it's never that bad on the way back home though, usually can make it just over an hour.  Right now 75 has a lot of construction going on from north of 380 all through McKinney since they are widening 75.  The worst parts of the drive are getting through Allen and then driving south after 635/75.
  • Like PPs said, the drive from McKinney to downtown sucks, unfortunately. I live in McKinney and now work in Richardson and the drive isn't horrible, but I don't take 75. I figured out a long time ago that taking 75 took me nearly twice as long as it did to take surface streets.

What streets do you take. Friends who live up in McKinney say they take Custer down.?

Dh is a morning person and will wake up and leave at 6am if that means less traffic. I dont have to go into work until a little later after rush hour so it wont be as bad for me. ?

I sometimes take Custer, but usually Alma down to Renner and then I cross 75 and go down Plano Road. I work just east of 75 off Arapaho.

  • We live in Allen and MH takes the DART in.  He loves it and it saves him a lot of hassle. He leaves for work pretty early because the Parker station parking lot gets really full.
  • 75 = no fun anytime!  But...I'm sure you'd find ways to manage!  There are a lot of people who do it, I think they just try to leave earlier in the a.m.  BTW...I love your little boys hat.  Did someone make it or did you purchase it somewhere?  Just checking!  Thanks!
  • We live in McKinney.  We live at El Dorado & Independence, and DH works at 75 & 635.  He used to take 75 down, but figured out long ago that it's not worth it.  He takes Independence all the way down to Richardson, and it takes him about an hour to get to work on a good day.  He generally leaves around 7.  If he leaves around 6 he can make it in 45 mins.
