Mother's Day dinner ideas

I usually cook dinner for my family on Mother's Day.  Any ideas for a yummy menu?  We get in a rut and make the same thing over and over.

I was thinking of a beef roast but does that seem too heavy for May?

Re: Mother's Day dinner ideas

  • I'm big on italian when I cook for our families since it is pretty easy to make enough for everyone.

How about stuffed shells, side salad and yummy garlic bread?

i like jen's idea of doing italian.  if you don't want to do stuffed shells, how about a lasagna?  you could do a baked brie, bruschetta, tomato and moss, or italian kabob (prosciutto/hard salami, mozz, cherry tomato, etc.)  as an appetizer.
  • We usually take MIL out to dinner at a restaurant of her choosing.  I think she wants to go to a habachi (sp?) place this year, lol.

For my mom we usually combine the "party" with my dad's birthday since it falls so close to Mother's Day.  We pretty much always do a cookout and between my two sisters and I we provide all the food and drinks so my mom and dad just get to enjoy.  Plus we prefer relaxed gatherings since my sisrer has 3 kids and they can get a bit crazy, lol.

I do like Jen's idea of italian...always a crowd pleaser and easy :)  I like baked manicotti, yum!
