please give me the patients to not leave my children behind in the monkey cage

they're great kids, but they enjoy testing mom. I packed a picnic lunch and we're going to eat it at the playground at the park after visiting the zoo, hubs aunt buys us a zoo membership for x-mas every year, so this is a cheap way to get the kids out of the house.
Re: off to the zoo
Aww that sounds fun! I hope you have a great time and the kids don't drive you to nuts!
I love the zoo. We have a small one about 20 mins from our house and I can't wait to take the girls there. Whenever I am in Manhattan for work, I always go to the Central Park Zoo. It's tiny but I love it and especially love the penguins. They are so cute and love to put on a show.
I'm sure the kids will love it. Just go with the flow and enjoy the day.
Glad it went well. I'm curious. How does the home schooling work?
Our oldest just turned 6. He should have attended Kindergarten this year which is a half day (2.5 hr) program in our school district. The school was unwilling to work with us, since we live too close to the school for bus service, but our private child care center is too far for them to bus, after fighting with them about how legally he 'must' attend kindergarten (all 2.5 hours of it) we decided he would be better off continuing to send him to the private pre-school, which does offer pre-k / daycare/ before & after school, they have certified teachers there and he is in a classroom environment for 8-9 hours a day (circle time, one on one time, music lessons, computer class etc.)
So we contacted our lawyer regarding our rights as a parent to educate our child, I had to write a letter to the school superintendent and provide a curriculum that met the min days/ requirements of the school. So during the day he does class room activates with the pre-k and after school kids, where he is doing K & 1st grade worksheets and materials and then we make sure we follow up in the evenings typically for 1-2 hours. Currently we're working more on reading at home and letting the school do a lot of the day to day. I see his teacher daily so we can tweak his program as needed. The funny thing is that the school district after making such a huge fuss, has never once asked to evaluate our son's progress, even though they had us sign all kinds of paper work say that we would make him available for evaluations. I've registered both of the children for public school next year, but honestly we haven't decided if we're going to send them or continue what we're doing. We do live in a very good school distric, it's the Kindergarten program I have issue with, and what do you know, our youngest will be in kindergarten this coming year, so we'll see.
