I have a friend that has asked me to go out on Saturday night for her birthday. She wants to go out at 9pm to a bar that is known to be kinda crazy, has a bull and everything. I really don't want to go, I haven't done that in years. Yes I did alot when I was younger and single but that is not the case anymore. I don't have anything against it, its just not my thing. The friend is single and she is my age so its not like she is in her twenties. I know she is only asking a couple people and she is really wanting me to go, she mentioned it a couple months ago and I kind of blew it off like yeah sure. I know that DH will not want to go but he will say I can go if I want. I would not really want him doing this same thing without me. So I know I can say no but I just feel bad. I wish she would just want to go to dinner and have some drinks etc. Its her birthday though so its not up to me. I don't want to seem like some old married bore. Anyway my point is, what would you do?
Re: Dilemma, what would you do?
Hmm, I have been in this situation, Have you asked DH if he would want to go? I know you said he will not want to, but maybe he will surprise you and want to go out.
Or you could tell her that you are not comfortable going to the bar w/o your DH. You dont have to feel uncomfortable just bc its her b-day.
Maybe you could offer to take her to dinner, or meet her for drinks at a resturant or something. Something to let her know you recognize its her b-day even though you didn't want to go out to the club. Her feelings may be hurt but she has to understand that just isn't your thing anymore.
I'd probably go but, would take my own vehicle and make up some commitment for the morning that would mean I'd need to get home early. I'm not a drinker at all so, the whole bar scene does nothing for me. On the other hand, it could be fun just to do something very different from the usual for a few hours.
Reading this, I now understand the benefits of having mostly older and married friends.
