Scary walk! (xp)

I posted this on D&R too.

I was walking both dogs this evening (DH has to work tonight so he is taking a nap right now) and a boxer comes tearing out of it's yard and attacks my dogs!!! They were protecting me and fighting back but they both have leader collars on so they couldn't bite really hard but it was so scary! The dog was going after Maggie's neck and Maggie was fighting back. Meanwhile I'm attached to both of my dogs by their leash and being pulled into the middle of the road while I'm screaming for help. It was so scary!!! Luckily the dog's owner comes running out and grabbed his dog and a few neighbors came out to help too. Apparently the dog's owner was pretty mad at his dog because he made sure that my dogs and I were OK and then went inside, and he is usually a talkative guy. His daughters were so sweet and they were talking to me and petting my dogs and one of the neighbors was loving all over my dogs and she was SO nice! She even invited me over for a glass of wine (I didn't go but thanked her for the offer). The dogs and I are OK and they will be getting special treats tonight for protecting mommy. It was scary though. This dog was at full advantage because my dogs were on their leader collars because if not then that dog would have been at a disadvantage because of my two babies.

Scary!

  • Oh my goodness! I'm so glad you and your dogs are alright! Great to know you have such friendly and helpful neighbors....
  • oh my goodness I am glad everything is ok now! my wiener dog got attacked by a neighbourhood cat (fattest meanest thing in the world) a couple years back and only got a bite out of his ear but it was scary. everyone kept asking "why didn't you just kick the cat?" 1) i like my legs 2) it happened way too fast for me to react like that.

  • That is scary! I'm glad everyone is okay. I'm always afraid something like that will happen when I'm out with my dogs.  Hopefully your neighbor will keep a better eye on his dog from now on.

When you say that your dogs had on leader collars, do you mean a Gentle Leader or some other kind of face collar?  Mine both have them and they don't have any problems opening their mouths all the way while they are wearing them.  Yours may not be fitted properly.  Unless the fit varies by breed.  Just a thought :)

Yea they are the Gentle Leaders... but when they are on and the dog is pulling it prevents them from opening their mouths too far. Our dogs were pulling as hard as possible. There is a warning in the video and in the info that you get when you buy the Gentle Leader that said to keep your dog from pulling tightly the whole walk or the whole time they are on the collar because it keeps their mouths closed. If they are too loose they don't work.

  • Eeeks!  I'm sorry you had to deal with another loose dog on your walks, but I'm glad your pups are ok
  • So glad everyone is okay!  That had to be scary!

Gotcha. For some reason, I wasn't putting two and two together that they were pulling at the time. Of course they were, though. That makes sense.

Ha its ok. You were probably just thinking attack! That was the one disadvantage of the leader collar was that they really couldn't protect me if they had to unless I let them off their collar or just let their leash go.
