Frustrated with prescriptions..

Does anyone know where I can find coupons for bcp?

My insurance plan only covers specific generic drugs. Since there are millions of bcp pills out there they limit me to certain kinds. Well, I cannot take certain kinds of bcp because of some problems I have had with them in the past. Right now, I am paying $60 a month for the generic for yasmin and I hate that I have to pay so much when I pay for insurance.I have already tried switching to some other kinds that my insurance covers and had really bad side effects. Im going to talk to my doc next month to see if there are any other options for me but in the meantime I want to see if there is something I can do this month. Any suggestions on where I can find coupons?

ps- A friend suggested I buy them online from Canada but I dont feel comfortable doing this.....Im actually very against that idea lol.

Re: Frustrated with prescriptions..

  • Oh no! That sucks :( I don't know what else to tell you, except you need to talk to your Doctor and see what other advise she can provide... Maybe provide you with more samples, or change your prescription completely... I am currently on NuvaRing and it's $30 a month with United Healthcare through DCPS.

    GL!

  • wow! 60 dollars for generic? I forgot how much my insurance was charging me.. but it was too much.  what is your gyno says that it is medically necessary? i wonder if that would make a difference. I get my yasmin from nicaragua! (family friends that go there bring it back every few months). I think I get Yasmin for $15/each.
  • Have you tried looking on yasmin's website.  Maybe they can help.

I always had problems w/all different kinds of bcp.  So it was even more annoying to pay out the $50 a month b/c I knew the horrible side effects I got.

I'm w/you...I'd be scared to get meds from Canada.

  • Have you tried filling them at Costco?  Costco has a pharmacy (120st and 137 ave) and they offer amazing prices.

If still competitive with other pharmacies, I'd suggest using the $25 GC for tranfering Rx... it adds up.  I take a few Rx that aren't covered by my ins., and one is almost $100.  I usually get a Prescription Certificate from Walgreens, and present it at CVS.  They give me a $25 GC to use in future purchases.  I'm sure Walgreens would accept CVS's too.  Target also offers them.  And at CVS, I've found that you don't actually have to transfer.  =)

  • Also, not sure if you qualify, but UM's health clinic has a pharmacy, and my BCPs were $10!  And I believe it didn't matter on the script (cost more w/ same ins at CVS, Eckard at the time)!  I guess they didn't want mommies to be walking aroudn campus.  LOL

I'm not sure if you can use their pharmacy, which is why I noted "qualify" but hey, it's worth asking!  Call them.

I have tried this too....I looked and looked.

And to be honest. Yasmine is not even the one I can use. It is actually Yaz that is my best one. But there is no generic for yaz yet and its waaaay too pricey and my insurance doesnt cover. Ocella, which is the generic for yasmin, ist he best alternate ive found.

Im this close to quitting bcp all together and trying NFP. But im kinda scared lol.

  • I feel your pain- I'm on Nuvaring and it costs $55 a month because my insurance has decided not to cover it. :( I have Golden Rule insurance which is a division of United.
