Birth control.. Provera... PCOS...and babies
I'm worried. I went of BCP almost two months ago. Still haven't had a period. This happened to me last summer, but I went back on BCPs after my doc said it was ok.
So I called their office. They're going to call in Provera for me. I'm supposed to take it twice a day for 5 days and if I don't have a period within a week of finishing it I have to go in for an ultrasound to see if I have PCOS.
I've been doing some reading on PCOS and the fertility issues scare the crap out of me. T and I are hoping to get pregnant this year. Do any of yall have any experiences with PCOS and getting pregnant you'd like to share?
I'm just worried now.
Re: Birth control.. Provera... PCOS...and babies
You can go months after going off of BCP before your cycle regulates itself. I have a feeling the PCOS testing is just worst case scenario.
I would go buy a copy of TCOYF and educate yourself on your body and how it's supposed to work without BCP while you wait for your cycle to regulate. Even if you take the Provera and start, your first few cycles will most likely not be normal. Patience!
Email me if you have questions girlie!
Thanks
I have a feeling it's the worst case scenario as well. I think T may be a bit more worried than me actually.
Does anyone know how much the Provera costs at the pharmacy? I'm just wondering.
It depends on what kind you get -- there are various formulations and methods of taking it (orally, vaginally). This should be oral, and will most likely run you $15-20 for 10 days.
The times I've taken it have always been cheaper than my pharmacy copay, so I just paid cash. My copay is $25.
Of course, it depends on what they prescribe you and how much your pharmacy charges.
I have PCOS I would not recommend the fertility book that most people on the board recommend. I bought it and returned it because it was of no use to me since it contained little to no information on PCOS.
I've had 2 children both conceived without the use of fertility drugs. But PCOS is different for everyone. Some people need fertility drugs, some people don't. Try not to worry too much. There is a ton of information available online. If your doctor isn't a fertility specialist I would find a doctor who is.
Hang in there.
ditto this except I've only conceived one child. If you have PCOS then TCOYF is a hunk of junk. Try to be calm & see what your doctor says. There are a LOT of options out there if you do have PCOS.
It took me two months and one round of provera to get my period last year after going of BCP. two cycles later i was PG. so, don't get too worried. just see how the provera goes.
(fyi - it made me kinda crampy)
Sometimes it just takes a long time to regulate. After I had my first baby, I didn't have a period for 7 months, did provera, then was irregular for two months until I got pregnant again.?
Beware, the provera comes with crazy side effects (at least it did for me). It cost me $10 at Target. I'm about to have to try it again because I can't get regular again. My doc has never mentioned PCOS.
I don't have PCOS at all and I hate the book TCOYF. ?
..
What crazy side effects do you speak of? lol I took my first one this morning. I've heard it might make me crampy or make me break out a bit, but that's pretty much it.
I have PCOS...there are different "severities" of it though. I pretty much have the worst it can be...you name a symptom, problem, etc and I have it to the 100th degree.
As far as me and fertility...at this point my doc pretty much told me that when Im ready to do IUI to let him know. Im on BCP right now, just to keep me regular. THat sucks only because on it we cant even accidentally get pg. But if Im not on it my chances of successful IUI go down becasue Im so irregular.
Aside from fertility, I suffer the most with the abnormal hair growth, very heavy and painful periods, and difficulty loosing weight.
Ive gotten a couple books from the library and Ive got a favorite but I cant think of the name. But it was great-explained PCOS, and how food and your diet can really determine how well you can control PCOS.
