Energy Company? Electricity?

Who do you use for Electricity? We currently have Reliant and it's about 18 - 19 cents per Kwh. Isn't that a little high? ?We haven't had any problems with them, but I was thinking about shopping around.?

I looked into Gexa, because they offer Continental Airline miles, which we already earn with our debit card. But I was reading some pretty bad reviews on their services and their BBB rating is unsatisfactory for 8 unresolved issues.?

Who do you use??

Re: Energy Company? Electricity?

  • We have TXU b/c DH periodically gets a rate discount for being a long-time customer.

A great website for information on E-providers in your area is -

    www.powertochoose.org

    GL!

  • We've had Direct Energy for the last 3 years and haven't ever had any problems with them. We've been pretty pleased overall.

  • TXU and we pay  $.13 per Kwh.
  • Check out the power to choose website for sure. We went down the list, found one with the type of contract we wanted, compared the p/KWH price, and picked some random smaller one. I think we have Cirro? Most of the smaller ones get their power from TXU anyway, and we haven't had a single problem with our electricity.

  • We actually had Reliant and just switched, I compared all of our bills over the last year and they were outrageous, and the flat rate fee they offer you is outrageous too.  I went to the same website, powertochoose, and went with Champion.  I had never heard of them either, but they had the lowest rate.  I didn't even think to check the BBB on any of them, so now I'm a little worried, but it's too late!

  • we have reliant at our rental house. It's okay. Expensive, but that's probably b/c our rental is ancient with crap windows. SO glad to be getting out of this money pit.

We had Gexa and they were HORRIBLE. Billing error on THEIR part ended up having our electric shut off when my son was a newborn in the dead of summer. UGH. Took 6 hours to turn it back on after I called pitching a fit.

  • We just switched from Ambit to Reliant. We had some salesman knock on our door, and we let him in. He said he'd lock us in for one year for $.11. With Ambit we were paying $.16 and it was expected to go up in the summer since we weren't on a contract.

It's funny. The Reliant salesperson recommended we switch Energy every year. Once one contract is up, he said search around for the lowest rate because there are always New Customer Specials. And then once that special ends then cancel and switch again. Sounds like a good plan to me. :)
