What are these black and red bugs???
And how do I get rid of them?
We have an infestation of black bug that have red markings on them. It seems they are mating now too because I see a lot of them hooked together at the butt. I was trying to sweep the front stoop and they were attacking me. I hate bugs to begin with, so I want to get rid of these ASAP.
Any suggestions?
Re: What are these black and red bugs???
Are they Box Elder Bugs? Here is a picture:
I'm not totally sure how to get rid of them. We call the "halloween bugs" and my MIL always says they are very hard to get rid of.
The picture didn't work, so I googled Box Elder bugs and found this website...
http://www.extension.umn.edu/distribution/horticulture/DG0998.html
which said this:
"During spring, you may see boxelder bugs on the outside of homes. These insects are emerging from their overwintering sites and are moving away from buildings. It is unnecessary to spray these insects as they are not entering homes. Treating them does not have any impact on the number of boxelder bugs found next fall."
They're at our house too. Super annoying but pretty harmless. I can always tell when one gets in the house because the cat is fascinated with it!
Thanks to whoever posted the link of what they actually are. Now I will stop calling them "damn black and red bugs".
