Wedding Announcement in the paper

As I'm from a small area, almost everyone puts a wedding announcement and photo in the paper. (Yes, most people do it 3 - 6 months after the wedding for whatever reason). My parents are bugging me to get it into their local paper (my hometown), and I just don't know what to write.

Have any of you done wedding announcements in the paper? If so, would you mind posting what you wrote? (Feel free to edit out personal detailsSmile

TIA!

Re: Wedding Announcement in the paper

  • We have not done our wedding announcement yet, but when we had our engagement announcement in the paper they had a bunch of questions for us to answer.  they then put it altogether and put it in the paper.  I was very happy with what they did.
  • My parents are planning on doing this once DH gets a job.  Which is a stupid reason to wait but our paper has a format of what to put and all that good stuff and my parents don't want let the whole town know that I married someone without a job, whatever. Anyways if could be something along the lines of "The marriage of Lisa old last name to Dh first and last name is announced by her parents, dad and mom old last name.  The marriage took place on February ___, 2009 at such and such church at 0:00 in the afternoon. DH is the son of so and so of yourtown, minnesota (right?). " Then from there you can decide to put where ya'll went to school, where you worked at, OR sometimes in the ones down here they go all out and get descriptive about the wedding adn what kind of gown you wore, flowers you had, colors, weather, reception style, etc.  I hope this helps you some!! :)
  • Thanks Ladies. I WISH I could just fill out the form and such, but small town papers have such small staffs that they just print what you give them. However - it is free so that's nice:) I think normally they say what you guys suggest - our parents, our educations, ours jobs, etc... (and actually, I've been waiting until I got a new job to do this because I didn't want to list my old jobSmile. I've never seen anyone in our area talk about the dress, the flowers, the color, the reception ,etc. but it's a cute idea. (I think in bigger cities the wedding writers include this stuff...)

I just don't want it to sound stupid, and DH doesn't care. He says we did an engagement announcement and that's enough for him. So, I think this will just go in my hometown paper and not his (and our new) hometown paper.

  • Lisa, I wonder if you googled it, perhaps you could find some sort of a template that could help you out?

My parents want us to put an announcement in, and I am up in the air.  I don't really care all that much, especially since a) it costs like $200 for one with a photo and b) everyone that I care to know already was there/invited.  I think it would be nice though, and I see the cost as the big drawback to be honest.  I can see a small fee, but it is a couple hundred dollars in my hometown paper for a few lines and a small picture...that is crazy!

  • Here is a template from a paper from Dallas that has examples:

This is a straight-up Mad Libs style template:

And this is another page with some suggestions:
