Invisible Fence

Anyone have an experience with them? ?Such as, how much do they generally cost to have installed?

We have a meeting with the local Invisible Fence company next Thursday to have one put in for the puppy. ??

Re: Invisible Fence

  • I don't have any experience with them personally, but our neighbors across the street just had one put in, they have the cutest sign that says "invisable fence, dog in training" with a picture of their puppy, they have the little flages all over their yard now, i think it's going well, she said it takes a while to get the dog used to it.
  • I don't and will never have one but I found this article which brought up some things I never would have thought of.

  • We don't have this and never even considered it because it's a rental.  We did get the remote shock collar & flags from Greg's uncle to try with Xena, but I just couldn't bear to put it on her.

We STILL leash her up and take her out whenever she's got to go.  If she's going outside to play, she gets teethered up.  When we buy a house in several years, I will have a fenced in yard, but will not leave her unattended because SO MUCH can happen SO QUICKLY (spend a day on the Pets board... it'll scare you sh*tless.)

I've heard about dogs outsmarting the electric fence before, Melanie.  It never registered to me about other dogs coming into our yard.

  • We don't want to fence in the yard with a regular fence for a couple of reasons. ?One being MH's last german shepherd jumped the fence at the house where he was living (when MH left for the Air Force) and was never seen or heard from again (and it was a HIGH fence). ?The other is our neighbor's kids like to come down and play with him so we don't want to block them out. ?We haven't had problems with other dogs until today actually. ?A big dog came in the yard to "sniff out" the competition. ?Denali barked like crazy at it and it ran off. ?HA.

My partner has one and his dogs do GREAT with it. ?So we're hoping that he will too. ?We always had a collie growing up and left her outside all the time...she never went too far from home and we didn't have any fencing. ?It's too bad we don't have that much land now!?
