s/o Your next house

Jen's post below got me thinking about my home. There are so many things that have room for improvement but that I didn't notice until we already moved in. I have a running mental list of the must haves and must not haves for our next home.

My next house will have: a doorbell, a pantry near the cooking area and not across the room,a bathroom on the main level, a silverware drawer that is actually wide enough to hold a silverware tray, a large refrigerator.

It will not have:  a thermostat in the kitchen so that the oven throws off the temp and the rest of the house freezes, stairs, stairs and more stairs!

What are your must haves and must not haves for your next home?

Re: s/o Your next house

  • My next house will be

    - 2-story

    - large pantry near the kitchen

    - 2 full bathrooms

    - 2-car garage

    - well-equipped kitchen with plenty of storage and countertop space

    - proper entryway with a place for shoes, etc before tromping into the house

  • My next house will...

    *1 story

    * have a great room w/ fireplace

    * formal dining room

    * attached garage w/ mud room

    * large kitchen w/ large pantry

    * 2 bathrooms

  • My wish list :)

    - Fenced in yard. Doesn't have to be huge. Just enough for the dogs to do their thing so I don't have to be out there with them when it's raining or cold.

    - Closets that are at least deep enough for hangers!

    - A dishwasher would be nice

    - Two car garage

    - A pantry in the kitchen would be awesome

    - Main floor bathroom

LOL! I have a 1-story and hate it -- and you apparently have a 2-story and want what I have! Crazy :)

  • My next house wish list:

    1 story

Lots of kitchen storage space and counter space

    Eat in kitchen

Living room and TV/family room (I hate that the TV is the focal point of the house!)

Attic useable for storage (Or catherdral ceilings if it's not)

Something other than a heat pump or electric heat

  • -Central air (I sacrificed that here)

-more durable floors (I love my hw but it doesn't stand up to the dogs and it makes me so sad)

    -4+ bedrooms

    -a family room

-a kitchen open to the family room

    -a bigger back yard

-at least 2 1/2 baths (including a master bath)

-a laundry room on the same floor that we live on, not our basement

-less stairs (this isn't a must though)... if I had to have 2 stories I would

  • I really, really like our house, especially after all the renovations we did last year.  Only thing that drives me kinda nuts are the appliances (diswasher, washer, dryer, fridge), because they are old and not energy-efficient.  But we'll likely move within the next five years or so into a bigger house in another school district, so we don't want to spend all that money to give up the new appliances in a few years.

    Wish list:

    • 4 BR
    • 2.5 baths
    • one to two semi-private acres, although I'd prefer if much of it was left undeveloped
    • two-car garage
    • breakfast bar
    • open layout
    • large deck overlooking natural/private landscape
  • My wish list for the next house: 4 decent sized bedrooms Large master bathroom with granite counters Large kitchen with large center island Walk-in pantry Built-in wine fridge and butler pantry 9 or 10 ft ceilings on all floors Walk out basement Open floor plan Fenced in yard with deck, patio, firepit, and outdoor kitchen 3 car side entry garage *i think that's a good start....can you tell DH and I have discussed this already??? :)
  • My wish list - minimum 4 bedrooms that are all well sized, one master bedroom with peak ceilings, and large master bathroom with great shower and two sinks.

I want probably two more full baths.  A large kitchen, with plenty of cabinet space and a pantry.  There is so much I want with the kitchen.  I also really want a laundry room.

A large yard, with distance between neighbors, fenced in yard and swimming pool and hot tub with nice patio and grill area.  I really want a 3 car garage and a wrap around porch on the house.

  • Considering I have a hard time keeping up with the 1400 sq. ft. we have now, I'm not looking for too much more when we move on to house #2...whenever that may be:

    - bigger bedrooms, 4 would be nice but 3 is good enough
    - more closet space in the bedrooms
    - 2 full baths or at least a half bath on the main floor
    - a second living space, either a finished basement or a family room/den
    - a bigger dining area or eat-in kitchen space
    - a recently updated kitchen or at least one that wouldn't require a full remodel - been there done that, don't want to do it again for some time!
    - a garage or at least a bigger driveway/parking area
    - a bigger yard w/ either a patio or deck

  • Wish list:

    -2 car garage

-large kitchen with island/breakfast bar, opens to large living room

-living room with fireplace ( we have this but want to keep it!)

    -formal dining room

    -4 bedrooms

-at least 2 full baths with another half bath

    -large laundry room/mud room

    -large deck with some acreage?

  • -4+ bedrooms

    -one story

-a finished basement for extra living space and a playroom

-2 full baths. at least one has to be big and have a decent linen closet

    -a flat, fenced backyard

-deck, patio or some kind of outdoor entertaining area

-big, low windows (ours are so high I can't see out them!)

-central air (non-negotiable. my allergies are killing me)

    -garage

-Under 1500 sq. ft (above ground). I don't want too much to take care of, clean, fill up with stuff and heat/cool!

It would be hard to give up my walk in pantry and main floor laundry. I would really prefer to be in walking distance by sidewalk to schools, town, shops, etc. I also like living within 5 minutes of the highway.

  • Must have -

    Garage
Entry way (or a room that we can come in thur the garage)
    Master bath
BIG kitchen with lots of storage and countertops
    Office/Den/Craft room
Laundry room on the same level at the bedrooms
decent yard (we have that now but its still a must)

  • 2 car garage

4 decent sized bedrooms for OOT guests

laundry room on same level as bedrooms

wood-burning fireplace (we have one now and love it!)

larger kitchen with pantry, lots of storage, eat-in kitchen

bigger master bathroom with his and her sinks

possibly more acreage, like 1-2 acres

  •

This is pretty bad, since we just moved in a few weeks ago! lol Next house will have:

-2 stories, or a more spacious ranch (maybe split-level).

    - another bathroom

    - bigger bedrooms

    - a dining room

    - a garage rather than a carport (though, the carport is a major step up from running 100 feet to the car in the pouring rain!)

    Will not have:

    - washer and dryer in basement - it will have to be on main level!

    - small closets!

    - original 70's windows that only open 6"... grrr!
