Clicky Poll... do you have a land line?

Re: Clicky Poll... do you have a land line?

  • We dont have one now but when ever we move next we are getting one again. I dont like being forced to give out my cell #.

  • We still have one but we don't even have a phone connected to it anymore because the only calls we got were political surveys and other junk.  The only reason we haven't gotten rid of it was because we're waiting until we get our new satellite tv service connected.
  • We have a land line still, just for 1800 calls and accepting calls so we don't have to give out our cell phones to businesses.  It's a very basic plan, just the number basically, no long distance.

  • We don't have a land line, just our cells. Sometimes I wish we did have a land line because I always leave my cell in by bag and don't hear it ring when I'm in another room.

  • Just cell phones for us...since we have been together.  I think at this point I would freak out if I heard a normal phone ring in our house!

  • We have both; we don't get good coverage in our house with our cell phones, even when we had AT & T and now Verizon.  We have unlimited long distance on our land line since we live out-of-state from our families.

  • We had Vonage until we got Verizon FiOS and now we have a Verizon landline.  I hate it!  We have gotten SO many telemarketer calls in the past month.  We NEVER got those with Vonage.  I put our number on the Do Not Call list and I'm hoping that takes effect soon.
  • Unfortunately yes, and we have the big package since we have no cell reception at the house and need local and long distance calling. We wish we could just have a cheap, basic plan for business calls but it isn't an option for our area. Our cell phones are pretty useless in the one mile surrounding our house.
  • Yes... we didn't a while ago and I was going WAY over on my cell phone. Now I don't think I would but I'm glad we have a land line. I feel a lot better about having one than just having my cell. And I don't give my cell phone number to businesses.

  • We do not have one! ?We tried to do that Vonage thing but the phone ended up dying and we always forgot to check our messages, so we decided to cancel it. ?We just use our cell phones because really, we do not make many specific local calls, enough that we'd get a land line. ?Most of the calls we make are not "local" so we'd have to pay for long distance. ?Makes more sense for us to have cell phones.
  • No landline for us! I think if we had to give out our phone numbers alot I would want to have one but we really don't have cause for this and paying the extra money each month just seems silly. If places ask me for my phone number (bath and body works etc) I usually give them my parents barn phone number. Let the telemarketers talk to the cows Smile

  • Kinda?

We have Vonage, so we plug our phones into the wall jacks in the house, but our phone service is over the internet.  Our "house" phone number is actaully a cell phone number DH had ported over.

  • We had to get one in order to be foster parents. The county requires it so 911 can track the call and so that older children have access to a phone in case of emergencies. Prior to this, we haven't had a land line in years and never missed it.
  • We don't and haven't for four years.  Everyone we'd call would be at least local long distance, so we would be using our cells anyway.  We don't know what we'll do when we have a kid and s/he wants to call friends.  We'll deal with that when it happens!
  • I haven't had a landline since college.  If it's not necessary for a business to have my number, I just tell them, "Sorry, I don't give out my number."  Most of those grocery store card type things only use your phone number to look you up if you forget the card.

Ditto.  Our new house has crappy cell service, but even when we lived at the apartment, we had a landline.  My parents live in NJ, and I just like having the landline to talk to them on.  Plus I talk to DH's mom a lot, and my grandparents several times a week, so it's just easier.  We've got the unlimited long distance plan.  I also like it for 911 purposes - from experience working for 911, it is very hard to pinpoint a location on a cell phone - you can come within several hundred yards, but not exact.  At least I know my LL phone will show up with my address if need be, especially if all I can do is dial and not talk.
