Opinions please

So my sister is having a destination wedding in October and she's doing everything through a destination website.  She wants everyone to book through the website and get their travel arrangements that way.

I got quoted a price just for the hotel stay that is NUTS!  So I went looking online to see if I could get the same resort any cheaper and it turns out I can get the entire resort stay, airfare, taxes, fees, etc., for less then the quote just for the resort from her wedding coordinator from destinationweddings.com.

So would you book the way your sister wants you to or the cheaper route?  She says that if a lot of people book then they might through in some extra things for her wedding.

Re: Opinions please

  • Hmm...I would maybe put together a spreadsheet comparing costs and how much you will save if you book on your own elsewhere.  If it is significant, I would tell her that although I would love to do things through her site to help with things getting thrown in, we just cannot afford it and have to go for the most economical route.
  • I would tell her about the difference in price and book the cheaper package.  A bigger price tag may also deter some people from coming.
  • I would go with the cheaper way to book the trip. If she asks then tell her you found it cheaper somewhere else. I'm asuming the trip is in the thousands and she really can't be mad at you for finding a better deal.

HAHA Krista I already have one!

  • I agree - if it's that much of a difference, I'd book thru the cheaper site. When my friend had her destination wedding, she told us she didn't care which way we booked - some used her travel agent, others didn't.
  • Yea.. I would definitely alert her of the price differences and suggest that you would like to go with the cheaper route.
  • I agree with everyone else.  If you're going to have a substantial savings, it just doesn't make sense to book through her girl.

I guess it would all depend how much I saved.  I'd probably end up booking it the cheaper way, though.
  • I would book the cheaper one if it was going to save you a decent amount.

So, this basically means that you all are paying for these extras since they jack up their prices so they can "throw in extras"
