the Backlot Bash today was sooooo disorganized!!
It didn't matter that we had guaranteed tickets -- they seriously overbooked. Some people who had 'Lawn' tickets were turned away even though they had gotten calls and/or e-mails asking to confirm they would be there!
by the time the guaranteed group that I was in was herded across the street for the show, there were no more seats available. The staff kept telling us to move in, but they weren't telling us where, so people were just looking for any available spot to stand, only to be told that they couldn't stand there due to fire hazard this or that! A few people ended up leaving...after waiting for 5 hours to get in -- they didn't even bother to wait for the show to start.
Staff was overwhlemed and got to the point where they were just flat out rude! I even overheard a staff member tell someone 'It's a free concert. please don't complain'.
My friend and I ended up finding a spot underneath a bleacher and just watched most of the show on the big screen on the right of the stage.
No Doubt was awesome though! Gwen climbed up on the scaffolding (is that was you call them things?) and just rocked out singing "I'm Just a Girl"
Oh and some people were told it was alright to bring cameras, while others were told we couldn't bring them in....Guess who got the 'No camera memo'? me =(
Re: Ellen Backlot bash = One hot mess
Ya, I'm glad we stayed and made the most of it. Hey - we got a shirt for our troubles -hehe!
This is the first time she's done a backlot taping since she's moved over to WB studios. But IMO, all the chaos could have been avoided if they had not overbooked.
Val, I hope your cousins got in b/c based on the comments on her site, it looks like even people who had Guaranteed tix were turned away as well!
This.
EESH!!!
I would have been hella pissed!!
Sucks that you didn't get to sit and SEE No Doubt!
Hope you had fun anyways!!!
FWIW- I don't think the staff is exactly stellar... there were a few people who looked like they knew what they were doing at the Mother's Day Show... and that is a handfull... I'm sure 5X as many people and outdoors in the heat was a MESS!!
I guess "first come, first serve" was what they meant because according to some of the comments, people w/o tickets who showed up and waited in line got in (and front row)
I had a great experience! I showed up with my friend without a ticket and she had one. Your staff was so kind and gave me a wristband and let me in. We got there at 10am expecting a crowd. Another staff member came up to me later and put a star on my band and my friends
That is ridiculous. I'd be mad. I am an understanding person and know to expect bumps along the way, especially dealing with large crowds. The first time they did it I am sure there were going to be mistakes, etc. However, to then treat people rudely and tell them not to complain because it was free?? That is beyond ridiculous. I think you should write to Ellen and see if she can give you tickets to another (in-house) show taping. I totally agree that it seems like over booking was the main issue. I bet they were afraid there would be no- shows...which on a normal day would probably be true. But on a day with a backlot concert bash? Yeah, right.
I'm sorry you had such a bad experience. It's such a bummer to be so excited for something only to have it turn into a nightmare. =(
Our wristbands had numbers, we were supposed to go in numerically, but a bunch of people just pushed, shoved elbowed their way up front. There were people that got there at 8:30am and were seated in the back, directly in the heat, where they couldn't see or hear Ellen.
Sounds like the person that you quoted, Sharra was one of those that got 'special' treatment from a staff member....sadly there was alot of that going on. My friend and I joked around that we were dressed too conservative that's why we didn't get pulled out of the long a$$ line.
I'm just glad we found a spot in the shade, under the screen!
My friend e-mailed someone on the show and they replied and offered her guaranteed tix for a future taping! She's going to tell them she wants tix for december...12 Days of Christmas, here we come! hehe!
Tameka - on Monday night, there were well over 150 complaints...but they were erased the next day! They only left the positive ones up. They'll probably erase the negative ones again later today.
There was a bunch of people complaining about a certain staff member. It was pretty funny - they kept describing him as the gap tooth guy with a Hawaiian print shirt. LOL
I did e-mail them, but they haven't responded.... but like I said, they replied to my friend that went with me. So hopefully they'll give us tix to a show in Dec.
