Township?

How do i find out what township I'm in when I move?

Re: Township?

  • If you get a copy of the tax paperwork for the house it should be listed on there I think.  Not sure of any other way though...short of asking your neighbors!!
  • Look at a map.  You bought a house and you don't know where it is?
  • It should be on the copy of your contract that you have -- a realtor should fill out the full address, followed by the township, and county. If they did not list it but on the off chance that it is Dauphin County - you can go to the Dauphin Co. Recorder of Deeds office website and do a search by owners full name - all recorded documents from 1976 on are online. If you are not moving to Dauphin Co. I would just wait till settlement - it will be on the top of your HUD, Deed, Mtg. and Note... or just ask the realtor -- trust me I have plenty of people who ask me at the settlement table.

  • Of course I know where my house is. ?Just not sure of the township.

Does this help?  You can to the county website and check out zoning and ordnances for townships.

  • You may be able to contact the Lancaster Co Property Assessment office and give them your new address.  (717) 299-8381.

Also, your MLS listing should include the township.

    Is this really necessary?

I'm surprised, too.  Local taxes and municipal regulations were definitely a consideration for us both times we bought a home.  After all, if we were planning to stay in our current home long-term, our township would require us to give up our septic and go on public sewer to the tune of $10,000 to $20,000 in personal costs.  I'd hate to buy and move, then be surprised with that kind of info.  Although that exact situation did happen to our best friends.

  • Maybe it wasn't as much of a consideration for her.

  • All i wanted was LS school district. ?So, we found a house that we liked in LS, but township is not really a big deal for me, I just wanted to know. ?plus, i'm not originally from lancaster so I dont know names of townships. ?plus, we are close to the city still so i was not sure if it was still considered lancaster city or not....I found out by the way, we are in West Lampeter. ?
