Waxing - Anyone DIY?

I thought I remember someone here waxes their own eyebrows or something.  What do you use at home, if you do?

(I'm not looking for like bikini area - that I'll leave to the professionals! LOL)

Re: Waxing - Anyone DIY?

  • I sometimes wax my own eyebrows, if I don't have time to get to my regular girl.  My sister is a hair dresser and she went and bought for me the waxing pot and the wax they use at the salons.  In the past, I had tried some of the ones you can buy at the drugstore and they didn't work very well.  Before I have the wax pot I have now, I had microwavable wax that only a licensed beautician could buy in one of their stores (I know someone who would get it for me).  In my opinion, not as good as the pot wax, but did a so so job.  The brand name is Gigi.  I just googled it and it looks like you can purchase it online.

  • Also, she bought me the kit:

It ended up being worth it versus buying everything individually.  It comes with wax, the cloth strips, the popsicle sticks, creams, etc.

  • No sorry.  I would never attempt to wax my own brows.  I get mine threaded and love it.  If you can find a salon near you that does, I would recommend it.  It costs me $10.

  • My friend who is also a hairdresser taugh me a long time ago how to do it.  My junior and senior years in college, I used to do it for people and charge them.  I had a pretty big clientele too.  That's the only reason I feel comfortable doing it.

  • I probably wouldn't attempt my own brows.  I'm thinking more of my chin/jawline.  I get it done today, and there are ALWAYS  a handful of stubborn ones that can't come out, but they'd be like a 1/2" by the next time I get them done, so I end up plucking them. LOL  Just a PITA.
  • Paula - I do my own upper lip.  lol.  I use a small pot of wax by Sally Hansen...you can get it anywhere.  I think I got it from Target.
  • I'm going to have to look.  I'm not sure I've ever seen it at my local Targets (not surprising... we have the crappiest Targets!)

Do you heat up the wax?

I have some of Sally Hansen's hair removal cream and like it but my chin ALWAYS breaks out from it. Sad  Do you break out from the wax?

I know this is TMI, but I'm hoping to find a wax I can do my chin/jawline and my toes.  I can't find a hair removal cream that works on my toes.

You can get it Walgreens too probably or Ulta.  Yep, you put it in the microwave and then spread it on with a little tool that comes with.  There are no strips to use which is nice and you can put on as little or as much as you need.  Just make sure you don't put the wax on when it is too hot, the last thing you want to do is burn your skin.

Honestly, I usually get one little bump after I use it but to me it is worth it than having the hair there obviously and I have gotten rashes from the cream stuff.
