Daycare Question

How early did you start looking for daycares and enroll your child (or future child) in one?

Baby is due mid-August and I plan stay home until mid-November or early December. Some people I've asked have told me I'm already behind and others look at my like I'm crazy for thinking that far ahead.

Re: Daycare Question

  • I think it may just depend on where you live, but if you feel like getting it checked off your list now, by all means do it! When I started looking mid-February (needed daycare starting mid June), everyone had open spots. I procrastinated and didn't put down my deposit, and my first choice had a waiting list when I called back about 3 weeks ago.

  • I am already on the waiting list for a January start. I already had mine picked out though and was told the baby room fills up really fast.
  • I think it does depend upon where you live.  I live in N. Dallas and we started looking 9 months ahead and was still on the waiting list.  We waited since it was a great daycare and the location was minutes from the house.  Luckily my MIL helped us out for 6 weeks until the daycare had a spot for DS.

  • It depends on where you are looking.  If you are looking in Arlington I'd really like to recommend  1st Baptist Church.  It is where on the faculty/staff at UTA send their kids and it is really fantastic.

We live in Grapevine so it isn't where Lily goes but everyone here loves the place.

Thanks for the recommendation! I've heard good things about 1st Baptist and it's on our list to check out. We can't decide if we want close to home (Arlington) or close to work (Southlake and Alliance area).

  • If you want close to Southlake I'd recommend Lily's daycare which is Children's Courtyard off Glade...they are FANTASTIC!
  • I had my daycare lined up before Christmas and I'm due in late June, will go back to work late Sept.  But I am in Dallas.

It took us a good 2-3 weeks to narrow down just even the ones to visit.  Rely on recommendations from trusted friends & family - they will tell you the truth.
